Just been given a Space Blanket (the flexible foil blankets marathon runners wrap around themselves at the finish line) as a freebie from a first aid course and I reckon it'd make a great insulator for under the airbed, as well as a blanket or carpet. Anyone else used them? Do they work for this purpose?

Yup I used them all the time...although I put mine on top of the airbed but under the sleeping bags. Kept us all very toasty  We had picnic blankets under the beds, space blanket and 2 sleeping bags when it was really cold out...I put sheets over them to stop them slipping.

we managed to bag a few of these for 50p each and use them under the airbed as well as on top but under the sleeping bags, we have also tried in the living area putting them under the carpet and was surprised at the difference.

Same here use under the sleeping mat and keep a spare in the pocket inside the tent encase it gets really cold

There are some thermal blankets that RAC do that are 9 tog rated, made by a company called MediWrap, they're used by the military and the NHS, really impressive bits of kit.

Note quite as cheap as poundland

We have used the poundland ones for a few trips. I think they were 2 for £1 at the time. We put them under the airbeds and it does noticeably stop some of the cold coming up.

But they do "rustle" a bit when you turn in your sleep. For that reason I found them a bit irritating. I have now invested in some foil back picnic rugs but have yet to try them.

Just spotted these picnic blankets in Poundland as well. Doesn't give the size but still good value at £1. I will have to visit my local Poundland store more often. I think it opened quite recently.

I have used them and found they made a noise all night.They are goof for throwing over tent when its hot, cools down the inside of the tent.
