The best metal trailers on the market for quality and price is the Pyramid Titan ones.
However you need to find a caravan dealer who will buy it and assemble it for you. Kircaldy Caravans did it for us and did not charge us. Excellent service from them.
The trailer is 5' by 3' 8" and about 18" deep. I have had other trailers in the past and I have looked at a few more but these Titan ones beat the rest hands down.

Got our 5ft x 3ft7" Lider Alicante trailer from RedCap Garage at Blackburn, they are a Lider dealer and import them direct from France, they also do trailers for hire.
Ours at half ton, when loaded with my kit, tows like a dream, it's the 13" wheel version, although they do a 10" wheel model called the Seville, which is the exact same size and design as the Alicante.
RedCap did us a very good deal, as we bought the trailer with the extras, ABS Lid, RoofRack, Jockey wheel and Spare wheel c/w side carrier.
We also added a locking Trailer Tongue Box.
Photo of it in my Gallery.

When we were tent camping, I lined our metal trailer with builders ply, covered the top and mounted a roof rack on top of that.
The trailer housed all the camping gear, food, clothes etc and then the top and roof rack went on and the tent went on top of that.
This arrangement allowed us to remove the tent without opening the trailer and so, even in thee most inclement weather, we could erect the tent and then roll the trailer inside before opening it and unpacking the contents.
The trailer only went back outside when it was empty and the insides of it remained dry at all times.
Packing up was a complete reversal and so even if the tent was sodden, it did not wet any of the rest of the gear.
We now use a folding camper and our trailer is used as a Ute Trailer but if we returned to tent camping, I would again waterproof the trailer and add the roofrack. It worked before and I am surprised that no trailer manufacturer has produced a pukka camping trailer along the same lines.

Would be neither a big nor expensive job but unless your vehicle accepts a NATO hitch it would need to be done to tow home.
It should be well within the capabilites of a reasonable midsized (mondeo etc) saloon/hatch.
