I received a large envelope, in it was a camping and caravaning magazine along with a letter. expressing that the forest experience cards are discontinued, but are doing a discount membership of £29 for the C&C club. So I am humming and arring over whether to join or not, but I have a short time to decide.  The reduce rates do look attractive for campsites, also kids camp free in low season, if I dare to.

I have money to fork out for full service and mot next week, plus still need to book and pay for the easter trip, which is a non c&cc site,  Decisions, decisions.

As you have probably realised C&CC members got the same discount as Forest Holiday cardholders when they went into partnership with Forest Holidays a few years back. C&CC have taken over complete management of the campsites this year so it's interesting that the FH card has been discontinued. My theory is that in time the Forest Holiday campsites will be brought more and more into the C&CC site network. It looks like C&CC membership is the only way to get the discount from now on and of course you will also benefit from cheaper rates on all the C&CC sites, some of which despite what some people say are very nice for tenters. It also means you get access to the Certified Sites and Temporary Holiday Sites and District Association meets all of which can be good value for money (not to mention all the other "membership benefits"). I suppose it all comes down to whether you think you will get enough use out of the C&CC membership this year to warrant the cost - but you'll only need to stay on a Forest Holiday site for 9 nights this year to recoup the fee even if you don't use any of the the club facilities.

Thats whats attracting me to some of the campsites are the reduced rates, Their is a saving of at least £7 or so, which is quite a bit of savings to me.  I am looking to go camping in Scotland for the summer as well.  I will have another look at the campsite in that area.   I could always go for the 9 nights at that time for my moneys worth.

I've now had the letter. The £29 rate is only if you sign up to direct debit, without it its £39. even the lower rate is more than a 100% increase on the old card.

I do hope we don't see the forest sites sold off to the Caravan Club completely. AS part of the Public Forest Estate they belong to us all.

I can't praise the C&CC enough. Since I retired last summer I visit the sites and never pay above £38 for 5 night including EHU.
It's a bargain if you are 55 or over.

Hi have just booked ashurst and was looking at a forestry card as the e-mail they sent me suggested that I might like one and that was yesterday Sat 23/7/2011 So why is it still being suggested if it has been discontinued in favor of c&cc as stated here in threads.

Also Mantrachant could you clarify if possible that if I and hubby join C&CC can we still use the over 55s discounts at sites as only one of us is over 55 (not me).

On C&CC sites you get charged by the person - either as an adult (ie under 55) or Age Concession (ie over 55). The age concession applies to individuals - i.e if one of you is over 55 and one under 55 then the older one will get the age concession rate and the younger one will pay the normal adult rate. Age Concession rates are only available to members.
Once you are over 55 the first C&CC site you go to you show them proof of your age and they stamp your membership card "Age Concession" and the fact gets recorded on the system. Future membership cards then have "Age Concession" printed on them. Although the system "knows" you're over 55 you still have to specifically ask for the Age Concession rate when you book (if using the online booking you have to remember to specify number of age concessions as well as the number of adults).

That applies to Club sites. Forest Holiday sites are different. Unless things have changed in the last couple of years you don't need to provide any proof of age, just ask for the over 55s discount and in my experience only one of you needs to be over 55 to get it.
