For us the main camping holiday is in the South of France for a fortnight during July, with a couple of overnights in French budget hotels each way, to help break the 2000 mile return drive.

We don't bother going family camping in the UK, but I do, do a few nights each year, either backpacking or cycle-camping, in England and Scotland using either my Hilleberg (cycle) or LaserLite (backpacking), tents.

we have four children aged from 7-14, up until 4 years ago, we went abroad every year for two weeks, the cost become unaffordadable, for a large working class family. so we now have 3 camping trips each year, a week in may , one at the start of the school hols and two weeks at the end, this one normally being, devon, or cornwall, and we all can honestly say we have had just as good times in our tent, i can tell you, we certainly dont miss the airport stress with our lot.

our main holiday this year is actually our honeymoon...no Med or Far East for us this year (yipee)

we normally spend 4k between us, this year it's £140 for site, petrol £150 and much less on food as we'll be cooking for ourselves

For us def main holiday..with 3 boys...a no brainer really...but we love it too...and we have a dog now so it is a real family affair!!!

Congratulations mrneillees!

Camping in the south of France is our main holiday. But I love our short impromptu camping breaks too. Camping is the best discovery we've made in years. My husband is freelance, so if the sun is shining on a Friday he can take the day off at short notice. He packs up the car while the littl'un is at school and while I phone around to get a pitch. Then we pick up the nipper at 3.30 in the car full of camping gear and we're properly on holiday by 5pm - genius! It really feels like a holiday too - even just a couple of nights we come back so chilled out. And our son is so excited when he sees the car outside school packed to the gills - he knows it means that an adventure is afoot!

Main hols this year are a week in July in Pwhelli and a week in October in London (well just outside - Theobalds Park C&CC, lodge for a week - £459 - bargain) with hopefully a few camps thrown in.

I hate flying, it always scares me silly even when there's no turbulence so give me a camping holiday any day!!

We've booked 3 holidays this year ranging from 4 nights to 12 nights, all of them are holidays to me - we'll be away from home/work and free to do what we want, that's a holiday!

Next year we're planning on going down to the South of France again (been twice before to Canet Plage but we were in a static, not camping as such) and the year after we're even thinking of driving to mainland greece, so fingers crossed we'll still get some 'sunshine' holidays too

I seldom spend more than 5 days of my holiday entitlement in one go, as I prefer long weekends once or more a month throughout the year instead of having 2 weeks off in one go.

All my camping trips are 4 or 5 nighters, and I consider them as holidays as they take me away from work!

All of my days are like holidays thanks to retirement which means I can go as and when. This year my main camp holiday is in June for about 2 weeks

Yes! and has been for the last few years. Usually 10days to 2 weeks camping in the summer plus 3 or 4 long weekends camping. My tent is paradise to me
