We have been camping for a few years now my children are 7 & 3 but now we have a new baby only 2 weeks now and was wondering if anyone has taken a little baby camping???
If so what stuff did you take?? I was think of letting her sleep in her pram saves a travel cot and space.....
We took our youngest on a five week camping trip to France beginning when she was six weeks old. Luckily at the time we had a LOT of luggage space, and needed it! We had a folding camper at the time, but we'd have coped just as well in the tent we now have instead. She slept in the pram top, and we'd chosen this pram system because the top was designated suitable for all-night use.
It was great fun, and much better than being at home, although looking at some of the photos, I look like I didn't get much sleep!
We are taking our 6 month old with us, and I will be co-sleeping with him, but we co-sleep quite often at home too, so we won't be needing a travel cot for now.
So long as the pram is suitable for the baby to sleep in overnight, it shouldn't be a problem.
Congratulations by the way!
------------- Loving our Khyam Ontario 8 with sun porch!
we camp and our twins were older at 12 months and yes we had to lug TWO travels cots around with us! but my friend took her 8 week old and i had a travel moses basket, it sits on low level legs so kept little one off the ground and during the day the back rose up and it became a slightly 'sitting' option, it also had a hood and a built in fly net over the top to keep the nastys out! GREAT little invention.

On a Boys Brigade camp the chaplain and his wife took their 3 week old baby. They used the pram and made sure plenty warmth at night and comfort during day. Was extremely hot in daytime and still warm at night. It was plenty work for the mum but not much more than at home really. Mind you there was plenty tent room as we used big patrol cotton ridge tents.

I just want to say that I would have reservations about using a pram overnight. I've seen a story in the last six months about a couple in a B & B that didn't have a cot available. Their baby slept in pram, for some reason pram tipped up in night and baby suffocated. Horrific! This has stayed with me because my youngest is only two and have at times struggled with space, equipment etc.
I would advise that you invest in a travel cot - not the big bulky type but the 'pop up' ones.
I think if you have a removeable carry cot from the pram then all should be well though you can also get camping cots for little ones, much smaller than traditional travel cots and do the baby for a couple of years or they do even cheaper ones that do when the baby is little and are very light. here
We took our little boy on his first camping holiday at 4 months old. I pondered lots about his sleeping arrangements at the time. He slept in a pop up Moses basket which we placed on top of a self inflating mattress for insulation. He wore a merino kids gro bag which was great because merino helps to keep an even temperature so it was warm through the night and not too warm in the morning when the sun heated the tent up. I had baby in one sleeping pod with me & hubby slept in the other as not enough room for all 3 of us.
Not sure what we are going to do this season as he's crawling & climbing all over the place
We had a pram which was a sleeping cot as well ( a silvercross) so had breathable mattress and was designed to get air through, so that would be the only way I would let a baby sleep in a pram. Later on we had a pop up crib, same make as this which you might e able to pick up cheap?
The other Q is are you bf or bottle... the amount of stuff for bottle is huge (I lugged all ours to Ireland when S was 6 weeks... needed a transit van!) I think that most other things will be adaptable :)

Still rather new to this camping lark!
Hi my not so little one was 8mths old when he did his 1st trip . Mine was born 1lb 6oz at 25 weeks (and we had him at home , on oxygen til then. He came off the oxygen on the Thursday and we were under canvas in a field surrounded by sheep Saturday night .)
Anyway - memories where was I oh yes
My secret weapon was I purchased a inflatable dinghy the kind you find in the beach shops . This was a god send it was his feeding table and play pen , I did take his travel cot and sleeping bag which I tied the end with a belt to prevent him slipping down . Took a folding bucket , complete with miltons to do all the sterilising in ! So much fun .
If you are breastfeeding and have it well established so you are not needing to express then you can do without all the clobber, all you need are your boobs, a cloth sling, few nappies and off you go :-) Sterilizing bottles in a tent is a pain (have memories of running them under a cold tap in a field at Shambala trying to get them clean- not fun) but not bad if you go with good facilities where you can wash up with hot water in clean sinks and hook up to take a sterilizer or you can hang those cold sterilizing bags.
I would not cosleep unless you do it at home and are tuned into it. I think your pram should be OK if it is a proper old fashioned pram top and you can put a moses matress in. We used our friends bugaboo top for sleeping in and it is not much different to a moses basket. You can also then rock them in it or push them about for a walk when they wake. When the babe gets bigger I would recommend a square travel cot (rather than the pop up tent type) as it makes a good playpen during the day, while you put the tent up, and they are off the ground. The phil n teds is a good compromise and has a sun blackout shade which is great for naps under a tree when it is hot in the tent but they are still on the ground.
I think the only tricky thing at that age is temperature at night. I find it hard to get the balance between wrapping them up if it is cold outside at night (which it is at the moment) and them not overheating, so I personally would not go whilst it is still cold at night but friends of ours did who are a bit more relaxed about these things and had a great time :-)

More to come....
we just took our 1 year old he is just a year old and we brought a NOMAD baby bed it can be used as a bed and play pen so did both in one then it folds in to a tiny bag about the size of a roll mat rolled up see pics below for it set up in our tent
I took my 4th on his first camping trip at 11 wks old. We did 2 weeks in a very soggy cornwall! As I knew we would be camping with him so young I opted to breast feed for ease of not having to make/sterilise bottles etc, which naturally made things much easier. We borrowed a camping 'pop up cot' for him and put that on top of an air bed to ensure extra warmth, but to be honest I would have just put him on an airbed had we not got that. As he was my 4th I was naturally much more laid back, as I am sure you will be with this being your 3rd....enjoy
