Hi everyone,

Well we have our tent, have pitched it in the garden and have lots of shiny new stuff to go with it!  Just about to book our first weekend away and was wondering of there is generallly a 'check in' and 'check out' time at campsites like there is in hotels - and roughly what time it usually is!

Thanks x

Hello, from one novice to another! You're ahead of me, as we haven't put ours up yet!

We have however booked a site. We went through the camping and caravan club, and the site we booked, we could arrive from noon onwards, and leave by 11am.

We're going from Good Friday til Easter Monday!

Not sure if that is any help!

When are you planning on going?

usually have to vacate pitch by 12 and arrive after 1pm, but it does vary, check when you book

some sites will allow you to pay extra and stay the afternoon as well

hope you have a great first camp

There is no single answer to that as it will vary from site to site, so it's always best to give them a ring and ask.

And it's not a silly question - it's a very sensible one actually!!

Have a good time.

No such thing as a silly question.

"he who asks is a fool for 5 minutes, he who doesn't ask at all is a fool for a lifetime"

wherever you book will usually tell you when you book, campi site internet booking sites also tell you, usually amongst the rules.

We usually find its 12noon to leave but the arrival time varies.

As someone else said most sites will let you stay later on the leaving day if they dont need your pitch. You can often just go to reception and pay a few pounds to stay longer, definitely worth doing if you dont have to rush home. Even better if everyone else leaves at 12noon and you have the site to yourself!

I think (although I might be wrong) that the OP is referring to the fact that some hotels like you to clear off during the day more so than times of arrival and departure. You are free to go out or sit around the campsite all day should you wish.   I generally like to explore the area I'm in however some sites are nice enough just to enjoy in their own right so I can understand that some might want to do that.

As for departure, generally I play this by ear. If the site is busy then I will try and get out for a reasonable hour, however I have left sites at 2pm when they are quiet. I have never been rushed off a site by an owner/warden, if I did I'd never go there again. 6 PM might be outstaying your welcome a bit :)

One of the sites I go to lets you turn up as early as you want which is a big bonus if we have the day off!  But like everyone else says, check with your individual campsite as they all vary.

A good question. It varies quite a bit so it is a good idea to ask when you book.

I would avoid sites that require me to vacate before 10am because the tent may still be damp with either dew or condensation (as a generalisation the later in the day you strike camp, the drier the tent will be).

Welcome to UKCS Forums, by the way.

Thank you for your replies everyone!

After being reluctantly bullied into camping by all the boys in my house, I'm really looking forward to it now!

Planning on booking our first trip for Friday 13th May - oops do you think Friday the 13th is a good plan!!

At the other end of the scale, it's also worth checking the latest arrival time, especially if you're planning on heading there after work.
