HI All,

I am new to this forum, however first off I have to say this is a great site, I have been looking at the tent review pages for a couple of months now and decieded on a Royal Havana 6 tent.

Our lovely tent arrived two days ago, after putting it up which took about a hour, really pleased with the size and quality of the tent.

Any how I decieded to leave it up as it was forcasted rain, so thought it would be ideal to weather tent, the following morning my 2 teenagers un known to me were messing in the tent, and ripped one of the main seams where the sides meet the roof, the rip is about 2 ins straight across the stiching, I am at my wits end. I phoned the company I purchased the tent from and they are in a quandary, as the lady who repairs their tents has retired, I have looked all over internet to find someone who could possibly repair it but no joy. I would have a go at it myself, however due to the fact the rip is on such a structual part of the tent I am not really that sure if  I should or even how to go about it.

Please if anyone can help, Thanks in advance

Hi Aniteout.

If its a nylon tent you could check the local webpages to see if any one does  sewing repairs , it really should be done on an industrial over locking sewing machine as I am sure that  domestic sewing machine might not be able .  You can purchase the nylon repair kit but thats for emergencies.

We did use this once as we had recieved damaged in our new tent after we went out shopping and our lovely neighbours kids where playing with fishing rods and hooks and our return  we had developed a hole , and tear in the side of our tent (funny that it wasnt there before our shopping trip!)

If you get really stuck and you are going to pull hiar out , this may sounds strange BUT I would suggest a sail makers .  We did sail and I did purchase new sails and they do repair sails so it will cost you either a phone call (or a email ?????) and you may be surprised?

Fingers crossed for you . Do Feel Your Pain ....

hi, i have mentioned before, but it is worth calling around your local curtain or soft funishing makers, i  do this from home and most of us will have industrial machines, and prices would be alot cheaper than a specialist, esp for a straight repair stitch.  get on the phone and ask!!

Thanks so much for all your advice, I am hopeful that I might have found someone that repairs sails in Cork, however due to the easter weekend I will have to wait, so no camping this weekend. Still will give me time to figure out how to punish my kids LOL

Thanks again will keep you posted

my wife repaired our tent, but she had to get waterproof cotton. Its easier than you think if you can use a sewing machine. If not caravan awning repairers will sometimes do tent repairs

If it's a seam you could try hand sewing it and then applying a seam sealer to the stitching. Buy heavy duty thread and a sharp needle with a big eye. Use back stitch and the holes from the last stitching. Seal with sealant from a camping shop. have a go!

From viewing the rip on your tent I'd personally suggest tenacious tape on both sides of the tear, this will permanently fix the tear but will also give you the option to have it repaired professionally at a later date if you so wish.

Tenacious tape is strong, clear in colour and waterproof.

Hi All,

Got my tent back from the sail maker, he did a great job, €105 euros lighter but at least it is fixed. Put it up no problems, thankgod.

I ordered some of that Tenacious tape to repair the toggle piece where the sleeping pod meets the fly sheet, as I forgot to send it with the tent when it went to get repaired, I have to say Gareth 29 its good stuff.

Thanks again everyone for all the advice.

Cant wait to go camping 4 weeks to go, really excited.
