Have any of you with families ever thought of camping locally and still sending your little ones to school.
Or those without families but with jobs to camp and go to work.
The reason I ask as we are considering this. Our 2 youngest children are now able to get respite at the same time, but that leaves our eldest at home with us.
I've thought about leaving him home alone (there is no risk for parties or anything of the such), but not sure if he could actually get out of bed ion the morning ready for school.
We have a local campsite which is closer to the school than we are and the thought has crossed my mind to take him camping and send him to school from the campsite (walking distance)
Funny enough we were sorting the camping gear today ready for next weekend, at the same time i looked at my OH and she looked at me and said "shall we go now". we are discussing going to a local site so that DD can still go to school.
We're thinking of doing it Whit Week, OH doesn't have enough holidays whereas I work in a school, so kids could come with me and the campsite is on a bus route back into Hull so OH could go to work, as could my DD if she is on the rota during the week. It amazed me last year at this site that I still felt on holiday even though I was only about 20 mins from home, even took the gear in a couple of journeys rather than using the trailer.
------------- May/June - Spring Valley
Aug/Sept - Leekworth
I "lived" in a touring caravan for 3 months one summer, catching a bus into work during the week. It didn't feel like a holiday though - just a convenient and cheaper form of accommodation...
------------- Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
We did this a few weeks ago .The camping site was at Hereford ( Our astronomy Star Party)(about 45 mins away from home) .I dropped my son(age 4 1/2) at school and we went and put the tent up.Left to pick him up.from school later. My husband stayed that night and I joined him when I picked my son up after school the next day.We had our weekend camp and I went home to our house Sunday night to sleep Monday -,took my son to school and went back to help my husband take tent down!Best of both worlds .We did the Star Party and my son didnt miss any school !
Yes. Last year OH and I had to work either end of one of the school hol's, so we camped locally and went to work from the tent! Bliss knowing you were coming "home" to your tent at the end of the day.
We met a family in Belgium a couple of years running who spent the whole summer on a campsite close to home with Dad going to work and Mum staying on the site with the kids. They were only a few miles from home so could pop home to deal with post etc. but they felt that it kept the kids out in the open and occupied for the holidays rather than moping around in front of the TV. They had a fab time.
last summer I camped about 5 miles from home for a couple of weeks with the kids, to keep them occupied in the summer hols, but during week days i took my eldest to summer school... she loved it, and thought it was fun. We just improvised on lunch-boxes !! :)
------------- survived the lovely British so far in !!
