I can't beleive this!!! Computor programs and spread sheets??? We have everything we need packed together in the corner of the garage. If you have to go getting stuff out of kitchen cupboards and every where else why not have duplicates?? We have pillows and sleeping bags vacuum packed. If we decide to go were ready in an hour. Don't need check lists as we keep everything together when we unpack the car.

That's ok if you have room to have all packed in one place. Even duplicates take space. Living in a small 1bed flat means spreading gear about. My stuff is stored in a walk-in airing cupboard, some in base of built-in wardrobe, in bed drawers, etc. Lists are essential for me as I don't take everything every time. I then have to assemble and carry or trolley stuff along 2 long corridors to the car park.

I'm guess ing that its when you add kids to the equation that the need for spreadsheet becomes apparent - 2 small people but so much stuff!

We have a computer spreadsheet as we have 3 areas where we keep camping stuff. The vast majority is ready packed in the side loft of the house (so very quick to pack), but the tents are kept in our bedroom wardrobes (to avoid the damage of extreme temperature fluctuations) and the airbeds, sleeping bags, microfibre towels and carpets are kept in another wardrobe (for similar reasons and to avoid potential moth damage etc).

We have several tents and setups depending on the type of camping. The majority is standard for all trips, but some things only go if we use the big tent, while others are only used with the small tents or for quick pitch touring. Having a list makes sure that we take the boxes and items needed and that we don't forget things.

When there was only 2 of us, we only had one tent and set up so lists only addressed such as footwear, food and such as cooking foil, oil etc. Now we have a 4 year old - overnight, weekend and longer stays have different setups - so having a computerised list is the best way of dealing with things.

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

Yep, you can't beat lists and also trying to leave as much unpacked as possible for next trip and in one place like hallway.

My main problem is small car and largish dog and changeable weather so how many sleepinglayers/clothes layers to take. Last month my clothes ranged from thermals to sunhats and being Britain can't say that is going to improve.

Think the more you go the more practical you get.
