Like all insurance, it's a legalised scam, when I checked with my home insurance, which covered camping kit, the detail was so flaky not to be trusted.
So next whilst a free member of the C&CC my tent was insured through them, again when I quizzed them, as to what I what get, in the event of total loss of my tent, they could not give me a definative answer, apart from market value, so definatley not old for new.
I decided in the end, that £50 premium, to cover some 2k's worth of kit, was not worth the paper it was written on, as in the event of total loss, I would be lucky to get a tenth of the value back.
As always, the devil is in the detail, in my view if you say somthing is worth 2k, and the insurers agree, then in the event of total loss, they should pay you out 2k, but in reality they don't.
I won't bother insuring again, untill I find a firm, that agree, if my 2k's worth of kit, becomes a total loss, then they will pay me 2k to replace said kit.
But I doubt I would get such cover for £50 per year, the problem is many folk are paying £50 per year for cover, thinking the are covered and having peace of mind, when in reality they will be lucky to get more than a couple of years premiums back, when they come to make a claim for total loss.
As always get it all in writing, and double check the small print.
