hi,
I have rapidly become addicted to this site since finding it and read sooo many posts, and the one thing that shows through is the general feeling of wellbeing camping seems to bring out in people.
we have only had one weekend in our new tent so far and absolutely loved it, not just the camping, bbq thing but the whole feeling of just switching off for a few days.

Had a fair few personal problems in the past couple of years which has somehow managed to get 'me'lost along the way, resulting in me being fairly uptight a lot of the time, irritable and unable to relax. This was one of the reasons we decided to give camping a go in the hope that it will force me and us as a family to just slow down and enjoy just relaxing.I am so hoping our first weekend wasnt a one off and that camping will steadily slow me down back to the person I once was.
so basically, thanks guys for inspiring me.
does anyone else find that a weekend away slows you down and recharges your inner batteries?

One of the things I love about camping is that you can be a mile up the road, and a million miles from home.
You live at your own pace - you are not tied to meal times.  If you want breakfast at 7am or 11am, it is up to you.   I love to get up early and sit outside with a cuppa.  I will sometimes have a bowl of cereal then, and have a cooked breakfast later in the day.
Sometimes we've sat around site just chilling, other days we've had full days out.   It us up to use - no itinery to stick to.    In the past we've looked at things to do in the area, decided yes we will do that tomorrow, come the next day we've looked at the weather and changed our mine.    Or done spur of the moment things on what was going to be a day chilling.

OK over the past two years, especially last year, thanks to serious illness and a couple of family deaths, we were not able to do any weekends away - but we started camping so that we could get weekends away, when we lost the use of a static.
Just getting away from it all makes a huge difference  - recharges batteries and destresses.

My wife lost both her parents last year and understandably was very down . Took her to the Isle of Avalon site in Glastonbury for 4 nights over easter and she came back happy and re-invigorated . Yep camping is good for the soul

Last year we put our tent up and the heavens opened the rain was coming down side ways, my jeans (beginers mistake lol) were dripping wet! so I took them off and finished pitchin in my mac. We were laughing like big kids and the tent went up so fast. its funny because if i have to pick up my daughter from school in the rain alll I do is moan lol

so I agree its so much more than camping

Putting up the tent in the rain last weekend and hubby says "look at you with that big daft grin on your face!!" Yep thats me, just love it, cant even really explain why!

As a family there is definitely something to be said for spending time together, away from the computer and telly, and just making our own entertainment.

Most of our friends are non-campers though, and just dont understand!

Nothing better than un-zipping the tent door in the morning, and the kids running outside to play, and you knowing that they are safe. That is so relaxing in itself, add to that the smell of bacon cooking in the fresh air.......that's it, I'm off to get the tent !!

I get so excited when I am waiting to go on a camping trip. I am nearly 50 (yikes) and can't believe how much I look forward to them. Could probably have a holiday abroad now but am not even interested. Much rather have several "holidays" a year. We just chill with no planning the day, bliss. I think life is so hectic now that the back to basics aspect of camping is what appeals to us all.

We Too have had serious issues to deal with over the last few years and only last spring took up camping.
we never go to far away from home but just the thought of going to pitch the tent and kick back for a couple of days is enough

Knowing that Emily is safe and in the fresh air without computer.tv.internet. etc eating when im hungry enjoying a good book, people watching or just having a beer at anytime of day thats what i call chillaxing

meeting other campers and having a natter over a windbreak with like minded people or just talking about nothing suits me down to the ground

We have met some great friends from this website and have had some fantastic weekends with them

CAMPING bring it on !!!!! those that dont understand never will

I love the fact that nobody thinks I am crazy when I am sitting outside with a cuppa at 6am - even if I have my pjs on under my coat.
We've just been through the year from hell, and I am still up to my eyes in sorting stuff out, so I can't wait to get away in a few weeks just to destress.

Yes, absolutely!  That's what it's all about.

Glad you love it so much, and wishing you many years of chilled happiness in a tent!

I have a fairly stressful job, and a fairly conscientious personality. I think if we didn't camp through the season, and have the next season to look forward to, I'd go quite mad.

Its a chance to leave the Crackberry at home, ignore the world outside if I want to. Something about the fresh air makes me sleep so much longer, better and feel so much more freshed.

Its like being at home, and home is something I endure between camping trips almost.

When we go away, I arrive a stressed, snappy (sadly, like the camping divorce thread!) neurotic cow, and do home a floating, happy, balanced lady.

Even if it rains, the sound of the rain on the canvas and the wind in the leaves is soothing. The experience is fun! There's a thrill of something primal when you face adverse weather with only a sheet of plastic between you and the elements.

Yes, camping is very good for the soul. It reminds us we're alive

i agree totally like you all i have had a shocking 2 years, have had not one but 2 cancer scares a blood clot i lost my job as a result of it, finally had all the bad bits taken away and felt like getting back to work, started my new job and my dad was diagnosed with an aneurism, he is now housebound and dying at home (his wish), i work full time in sales (stressful enough), i have 3 children, one of which has an attention defecit and i help my mum care for my dad, there are days when i just dont know how im going to get through.

the one thing that keeps me going is the fact that my amazing husband is very supportive and we get away for a night or two whenever we can with the kiddies, because as soon as that tent goes up my life relaxes, its like a button that just switches you off and it heaven and i love it

life is good when you camp

I prefer to camp over long weekends, so that I can have 2 short weeks on either side.

A long weekend about once a month from April to Sep is usually enough to recharge my batteries.
