Ok, don't normally take dogs with us but we are staying local next weekend. What do people use to secure dogs up, i thought about using a length of the plastic coated dog tether cable looped around the car alloy wheels spoke then attached to dogs collar. Or are the dog stakes any good to use, spiral type (got boxers). Or the rather nifty looking Delta dog tethers?
we sometimes use the spiral metal spikes, never had a problem with our lab.
only problem was that he tended to get tangled up with it so last few times i have just put two deltas in to the ground and tied his long lead round it. the deltas sit flush on the ground so nowhere for his lead to get tangled up on.
We use the delta dog tether with our boxer and it was brilliant....it didn't budge. We've had 2 spiral ones which both bent and pulled out of the ground....I love my delta dog tether lol
Hi. I use the corkscrew types and lengths of rope without problems for our two hounds. They do take a delight in getting themselves caught up then stand looking sorry for themselves. Have to use the mallet handle to screw them into the ground. I personally wouldn't fix them to the car just in case their was an emergency and you had to shoot off in a hurry forgetting they were there. The result doesn't bear thinking about!.
Another fan of the Delta dog tether here, brilliant piece of kit.
I use it with an adjustable cycling/walking lead, and no more tangled lead!

we are taking our dog for the first time and thought that we would just rig up a similar thing from our delta pegs to save on the money....good to hear someone has already tried it...thanks!!!
Very interested in this thread, we had two dogs with us for the first time last year.
We have a corkscrew thingy which we used for one end of a run line & the other was on the hitch on the car. The young dog ( staffy X) would suddenly lunge ( playfully) towards some one or something, one time the screw was pulled clear out of the ground & at other times the leads from her to the run line where broken. Now this year we are hoping she will have calmed down a bit ! plus we have been training her more, she is just so friendly & playful that she is a bit of a handle full sometimes. She is not a big dog but the shock loading on the lines must be pretty high. So going to look out for these delta pegs & give them a go.
Have to say I recently voted the spiral dog stakes as my "most useless bit of camping equipment"!!! It does obviously depend on the ground but our experience has been either the ground is so hard you can't get the spiral in or else its too soft/sandy the stake flies out at the first tug!
As a cheap alternative we just hammer in some of the very heavy duty storm strap pegs to below ground level so their actual tethers can go 360degrees without getting tied up.
We really liked the look of the Delta tethers but thought they were a bit pricey so my OH knocked up something very similar quite easily and it works a treat :~)
