Ok, we have a lovely new Kampa Filey,our first big family tent, have put it up in the garden (no space to peg it) but checked everything is there and that we CAN put it up!
Now what...do we have to put the sprinkler on it to shrink the seams/check for leaks, or do we just pack up all our stuff and go?
And what do we take for the tent? Seam sealant/spare guy ropes/duck tape.....what are your top tips?
And what is on your list of "I wish I had thought to bring the......" items?

It's worth checking the tent for leaks and manufacturing faults but synthetic tents neither stretch nor shrink. You won't be able to check for leaks unless the tent is pitched properly.
I s'pose a good choice of pegs and a decent mallet would be my first thought. Don't forget to have some means of boiling water at hand so you can make coffee while you're setting up.

No specific need to soak it as it's a polyester tent. However, it's not a bad idea to check for leaky seals as you have it up anyway.
Always a good idea to have a few spares as you've suggested. As for little things to remember, I'd say bring a tent peg puller.

I always forget to bring a tin opener as most tins have the pulley, but DH goes 'cheap' when camping and gets tins with out so you see my predicament!! As long as you don't do a home alone you'll manage!!!

If you only bring one thing for your tent make it duct tape which will repair split poles or temporarily repair tears.

Take more pegs - lots of them! And all different types! Just come back from our first trip away (ok, only one night) and found that where we've had hardly any rain for weeks, the ground is like rock. We ended up going through two bags of pound shop steel pegs, before raiding my dads peg bag (he had brought his caravan down). Thank god for rock pegs!

A wooly hat to sleep in! The temperature at night ATM is between 6 and 9 degrees C so using a good sleeping bag and warm hat will keep you snug.

Always carry a few spare pegs - then when one bends, which is inevitable does, you have spares.
There is no harm in carrying some seam sealant with you, and the age old standby - duct tape, and some WD40.
