we have our first camping trip of the year next week and i desperately need a bed for my one year old!! last year he slept in pram but he won't fit this year.
the range had a toddler air bed on sale all last year.but not this year. I would appreciate any advice on what to put him on. will a normal airbed do?
You may find that a normal airbed may not be adequate. If your son is anything like my two they are all over the place in their sleep and you may spend half the night lifting him back onto it.
The toddler airbeds are good as they cant fall out. If you google this I am sure you will find many other suppliers. If you do source one, just remember to insulate it well as airbeds can be a bit chilly with all that cold air inside.

get a Kampa Junior airbed they come in pink or blue, I had one for my daughter and it was perfect as it had sides on so she couldnt roll off and perfect size for toddlers
These are fine for indoors but you can spit peas throught the sleeping bag. If you used this you would still need a good quality sleeping bag or duvet to keep your son warm at night.

Oooh, that Kampa one looks perfect for our wriggly 16 month old! She was in a pop up bubble cot over the weekend, but didn't appreciate that it fell over every time she tried to stand up in it!!
My nearly-nearly 3 year old still sleeps in a my first ready bed. The top is a flap of very thin padded cotton but he loves it. At Easter we tried putting extra layers over him and he was too restricted and warm. When we gave up and left him in just that he slept fine. But then he is the sort to wake up in a sweat when he sleeps indoors so obviously has his own heating system.
I have the same problem. The ready beds look good but I fear they will be no good in all but the best weather. I am leaning towards getting another Lidl SIM for him (if I can find one) as they are low to the ground yet supportive and with a blanket underdeath it, it should be a warm enough base.
Another vote for the sims. We found two lidl/aldi sims side by side filled the kids bedpod, covered with a fleecy blanket so it was warmer to touch, meant they were warm and comfy and couldn't fall off!!! We may have to upgrade to decent sims now though, as both boys have used our thermarests at beaver/cub camp, and much prefer them of course!!!
SIM for us - we tried a ready bed, but DS just spent the whole night falling off of it... which involved much wailing and trashing around. A decent sleeping bag and a picnic blanket / fleecey throw underneath, and we don't hear a peep out of him till morning.
We were worried about escape - but now always put the zips to the top. He's just learnt to crawl out of the pointless weather window on our outwell though, but we think he'll be too big soon...
We do use ready beds, but with a mat underneath and extra blankets on top, as the duvet is very thin. My daughter is always very warm. She wears warm pyjamas and socks in bed. If its very cold thermals too. Actually she usually ends up throwing some blankets off, but she is one of those children who hates being too hot at night.
My daughter is very attached to her ready bed, its all part of the 'staying away from home' experience for her as we use it when we visit friends, it makes her feel secure I guess. I'd be happy with a SIM for her, less chance of falling off, but she wouldn't have it!
Those Kampa air beds do look good though, I have to say.... if we didn't already have the ready beds I'd probably go for that.
Will be trying my son in a ready bed whilst camping for the first time soon - he was in a travel cot before but they do take up a lot of room in the car. Am dreading the night-time escapades though, at least the cot kept him contained!
Agree suebear about them crawling out of the little weather window on Outwell - its really annoying!
