I've managed to lose 1.5stone with another 1.5 to go,but the diet seems to go out the window when we camp.
whats the general thinking regarding this.? We want to go quite a few weekends so i cant really afford to jack it all in every 3 or 4 weeks.but I dont want to fuss about worrying about low cal food when camping.
anyone found a happy medium?

Hi, I am a slimming world member of 3 & 1/2 years and consultant of 5 months and we too have done lots of camping and caravaning in the past. I think the main advice I would give you is to forward plan what you're going to have and prepare things in advance. I have lost 5 stones so far and never worry about gaining when we're away, we all want to enjoy ourselves after all, don't we ?

I normally find that I can strike a happy balance and stay the same when camping, naturally you are more active when camping than you are at home (well I am anyway), i do take things like WW sausages for breakfast for me, I try not to overdo it but I do indulge in some nicities... especially the alcohol in the evenings. I have sometimes managed to go away and actually lose weight too but on the whole I am happy if I stay the same.
If we go out for lunch I try to make a healthy choice off the menu but try not to let it be obsessive (mainly because I drive my hubby nuts with it). Enjoy and congrats on losing your 1.5 stone, I bet you feel (and look) great for it. Good luck with the rest
I tend to lose weight when camping, probably because I'm out and about more, burning more calories. I eat mostly salads, fresh fruit and easy to prepare food without worrying too much about lowcal food. Depends how often you eat out.

thanks both. I'm doing slimming world too so have plenty of options to choose from. Just another thing to think about and plan before each trip i guess

I may eat a fry up as brunch most mornings, however, that usually lasts me all day until dinner.

I love to do a big fry up ( slimming world style) as an early lunch as I don't eat brekkie. This also lasts me until teatime, I like to save my syns for wine o clock ;)
I find I eat better whn camping than I do at home. I think the idea of cooking outside, doing more walking and generally enjoying the great outdoors seems to help!
SW is ideal for camping as no food is banned and there are so many lovely meals you can prepeare quickly and easliy that fit in with the plan.
Got a plate for lil one too as theres a kiddie version, means I can help her stay healthy too. Veg and salad is unlimited and the bowl weighs out most of your top brands of cereals etc and it gives you a similar guides to soups. The booklet that comes with the plates etc is very straight forward and not complicated like some ive read in the past. Outlay yes they cost a bit but reading up on them on their forums etc people like myself have had a lot of success in getting the weight off and keeping it off. It doesnt say dont have chips it just says keep them within the carb tape etc same with other things.
Ive had it almost a week and lost 6lbs. Thats still getting used to it and out of old habbits with a few choccie binges. Cooked brekkies are easy, grill/griddle with no oil added for all meat, boil poach or scramble eggs instead of frying everything.
I went for the melamine set and they are tough thick good quality well worth the price and will be fab for taking camping.

When we camp I don't worry too much, a holiday is to be enjoyed and I cook what is easy on a barbecue, cobb and campstove. we also eat out, indulge in fish and chips and the odd cream tea.
Yet I always seem to either lose weight or not gain any. I can only put it down to the extra activity and maybe the effect of chilling out a little on my metabolism.
Enjoy your camping and try not to worry too much. If you gain the odd pound it's easily lost again and holidays are too precious to not be enjoyed.
