hi i was just wondering to myself is there a thing called too much.
went for a drive to go outdoors yesterday and yes you guessed it ended up buying loads of stuff again. We will soon need a 49ft lorry to transport it. But is only stuff that was on my list that i made on last camping trip but in my eyes we both think we need it. And to be honest some of it was to replace other stuff.
i just think we have too much but got a big tent to fill (montana 12)
I am at the opposite side and trying to condense what we take as ultimately its all left to me to unpack once home and i loathe it!! but yet i still spend as much in the stores buying smaller/portable items to replace perfectly good but larger items (its not working)
I believe there is such a thing as too much. One of the lovely things about camping is the compactness of it. My home is very cluttered and small, so I like to get into a simple, practical frame of mind when I camp, and it would grieve me to have more things in my tent and less space.
Have to be firm when bargains spring up, as they do from time to time, but we don't want any more stuff now.
I can only have what will fit in the car, if it wont fit we say "do we REALLY need it" if so we have to rethink what we can do with out....
Its a right night mare as i need Everything :( hubby thinks otherwise.... but I dont like packing away, so i do it so we can pack away quicker... dont want to have a Trailer (yet) - like to zip down the motorways, not bothered about a roof box (again yet) - dont want to get a bigger car, just got this one :)

I've just done the same, as my OH wanted to be able to tour with our vintage soft-top landrover. Even involved a new tent for a sturdy, standup, quick pitch option. Must admit - having got the kitchen into a set of saucepans and a digital camera bag and most other things in a folding bucket, a small holdall and a large drybag for bedding - its fab just to pick-up and go. We don't seem to lack anything when we use it either - although standard chairs and a table would add a bit of extra comfort.
We are using the big tent for a week this coming Saturday with all the standard gear and even though all the smaller items are packed ready in a couple of plastic boxes and a wheeled crate and its all been designed to minimise manhandling - it does seem like relatively harder work. "Easy pack and go" is our moto these days...
------------- Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
Same here only what we can fit in the car and we only have a 2 seater Mercedes SLK so the boot is very small. Personally can't cope with all the paraphernalia that some people take camping.
The tent is just somewhere to sleep, the day is spent exploring the local area of where we are staying and that includes eating out. I guess if you are in the middle of nowhere then you might need to take a cooker but otherwise why bother with all the junk ?
We've just got back from the c&cc site at windermere. When we packed up this morning, I did tell the wife "when I get home, im sorting that box out, im sure we dont need it". We have a plastic lidded box with all sorts of 'bits' in like batteries and lanterns and crap 'because you never know when you need it'. Despite the fact the box takes up a quarter of the boot space, theres no room for anything we might buy whilst away. So its time to sort it out and transfer stuff into carrier bags. Starting to panic at the moment as Ive been offered one of the bigger cadac's that take the seperate gas bottles, so Ive no idea where that will live in the car when we go again. I cant afford the solution yet-a trailer! I was impressed though whilst away, that a lady with 2 kids went camping in a ford fiesta. The secret apparantly is to get the smallest of everything. Cant see that working for me as when I bought the tent I bought a 10 man version-for 4 of us!!!lol.
------------- When there's a knock at the door, why do dogs always think its for them?
Fat people are harder to kidnap
I am a bomb technician, if you see me running, try to keep up!
vacuum pack everything squishy and keep solid "furniture" items to the bare minimum...inflatable chairs/sofas are very good for cutting down on space used in a car...choose carefully tho as some are more reliable than others...
we only have a car (no trailer, roof rack or roofbox), so have become pretty adept at filling every inch of available space with camping necessities...we also stuff as many small items as possible into voids in larger items...spare batteries inside walking boots...cutlery, crockery, midge repellent etc in the coolbox etc...
we used to take a fair bit of food with us which took up much needed space, but now we find out the location of all the big stores closest to the campsite we're visiting before we leave so that we only have to take the minimum amount with us to provide us with a meal on the first evening and breakfast the following morning...
