We are off on our first camp in six years this weekend and I am probably a bit out of date with meal and snack ideas.

I know mattesons smoked sausages are good because they don't need refrigeration.

I've got a griddle which fits over the double burner so we won't need a BBQ. And I've got a steamer to fit over a saucepan to allow pots and veg to be cooked on one burner.

Is anyone willing to share a few tips/ideas for food?

I'd really appreciate some help.

Hi Camping-Chicken,

I love food but tend to be a bit lazy with regards to cooking whilst on holiday.  The first night I usually take a couple of salmon fillets, I marinade them at home first in Sweet Chilli Sauce or any of the Blue Dragon sauces that come in the litlle sachets that take my interest.  I wrap them in tin foil and chuck on the BBQ but would be fine done on the griddle and serve with a goats cheese salad. For the second night I normally have Spag Bol or Chilli as there is always some in the freezer at home and it has usually deforested by the second day.

By day three I'm bored of cooking and end up in the local fish and chip shop.

Happy Camping.

Just been away for the week, just me and hubby, I mostly went to the local store and bought ready made sandwiches for dinner and ate them in a nice spot on the sea front or some scenic place, then for dinner ate in cafe's or superstore as it was just a cheap as buying a full shop for a week (for me anyway).  Morrisons did an offer of 2 meals and a drink for £8 - lovely too.  A light tea after a large fish and chip dinner was super noodles and a crispy cob, mmmm lovely, (but not everyones cup of tea).  Not a good idea if you have a larger family i suppose though.... when i camped with the kids, unfortunately it was the basics, beans-egg-toast, fried breakfast, hope you get more ideas.

They are some great ideas on this site, and creative minds :)

We do pasta with tinned tomatoes and veg with chopped frankfurters.  They last a few hours in the cool box and we tend to shop when we are out each day.

Then potatoes veg and grated cheese.

Then occasionally cous cous if we are feelin adventurous.  Basically we have a 2 ring burner and have a pot of chopped veg on one and a pot of carbs on the other.

The husband's attempt at scrambled egg last time may have put me off for life...
