A lotof it is comon sense.  Also got to remember that no matter how careful you are, you laso have to consider the idtiot in the next tent who thinks that it's OK to nip t the loo whilst his bacon fries.

We have a fire extinguiser next to the cooker.

Also a fire bucket.  OK One bucket may on its' own may not be that effective on a fire - and often with nulon tents they would burn too quickly to do much - but a chain of fire buckets could stop a fire speading to adjecent tents.

I havea knife handy to cut our way out in an emergeny.   The children also know that if I say, in a certain way, that I want them to get outside NOW to do as I say withoug question.

Doh! looks for brain

you stick to your two fire extinguishers, where we would rather be alerted to a fire because our main priority is to get everyone out and stay out, tents can be replaced loved ones can't

Spontanious combustion is not likely in a tent.

I cook in my tents always have done always will do. I don't and won't cook inside a small tent though. There have been many house fires over the centuries, but we don't all cook outdoors. There will probably be many replies saying don't ever cook inside a tent, but there's probably  as many do as don't.  Cabanon and other manufacturers actually provide a kitchen section within their tents, so they must think it OK.

I always stand with the door open and available for a quick exit, and never have the cooking equipment between me and the door, I think this is just common sence.

I've posted this many many times before, but we are all in so much more danger when we get in our cars, and very few posts have ever asked should I go camping because I will have to go by car.

It is sensible to ask the questions you have asked though, if you are not sure about things.
