Hello everyone. My name is Muddie and I think I may be a campaholic. Actually, I'm a newbie and I've only camped once [this last weekend] but I really enjoyed it. We were lucky with the weather, of course, which probably helped but I'm looking forward to the next trip.
I wanted to thank people for the help and advice given here. I chose the tent partly on the basis of info given here. I was guided by what essential kit to get & what could wait. I found the answers to all the basic questions I had. I was doing a lot of 'lurking' I'm afraid.
Anyway, thanks again - you're a very helpful bunch.
and don't be afraid to ask questions even if it's been covered before. sometimes people can give you a direct answer or point you to the previous post.
I know I've asked some basic ones in the past and always got a good response.
Hey, lurking is good, I do it a lot as this site has so much information to offer you'll find there isn't a question that can't be answered. Your tent looks nice, a bit like our first one which got us well and truly hooked. Our kit has grown in size somewhat but we took our time and built it up over the last six years. Every time we go away we decide we need something new but also discover bits and pieces that aren't really necessary (blow up sofa bed springs to mind!).
Looking forward tomore posts to see how you're going
Welcome to the wonderful world of camping, once you have tried it there is no going back, no matter what the weather you will always enjoy yourself.
All you will do now is spend spend and more spending, but its alot of fun. You will find yourself looking at other peoples set up and you will think to yourself I could do with 1 of them.
Enjoy

Hahaha ..... yeah, it did occur to me that in theory camping is supposed to be the cheap option, so why was I thinking I might have to get a bigger car? Maybe keeping the one I've got [Fiesta] will keep the kit buying within bounds. Reasonable bounds that is. May still have to get the loft boarded to store everything though .....
Had the tent up in the garden today to air it off - it chose to rain when we took it down yesterday. Pitched a lot quicker and packed away much neater - and back in the bag
Yay, back in the bag! We got a Montana 6 two years ago (yes after a lot of lurking on this site!) and couldn't get it back in the bag after that camp. Then a few weeks ago I pitched in the back garden, did a few repairs, watched a YouTube demo video and got it back in the bag too! Feeling too smug! And as for the cheap option... no way, have 'invested' in too much stuff! Makes me really gutted too when I see people selling their whole bundle of camping gear on eBay for a pittance!

Your car is bigger than mine, I only have a KA, when we went camping last week we had to do 2 trips, but we was only 20mins up the road from us, so it wasnt to bad. For our main holiday in August though OH is going to borrow the works van as we will need it as we will be taking more stuff with us.

Oh Muddie, how nice of you to come back to thank everyone!
Glad you had such a great time, and hopefully you'll come here a lot more and post away about all the little things that make camping such fun... and of course any problems you encounter in your new hobby!
and thanks from us too.
we had been thinking of camping for a while but not got around to it and now I wish we'd tried it years ago.We have had 2 trips away so far and have a week in Aug and 3 more weekend trips booked. At a rough guess I would say that although it is addictive and I cant stop buying extra gear I reckon with all our trips included, tent, and gear we have spent just slightly over what we paid for a week in center parcs last summer.I have never felt so relaxed as when we are camping and I am usually quite a stressed person.
so much information and advice on this site from experienced members its wonderful
------------- tent and gear all packed away now and making plans for 2012
