All my kitchen stuff (cups, plates, bowls, pots, pans, boards, cutlery etc etc) fits into a large holdall (I got 2 for a fiver from Bristol market last year). It's surprisingly light & I have a system for packing it so I know it's all there from season to season, site to site.
I couldn't imagine having to go hunting for "that box of cutlery" or "the saucepan set" every time I want to go camping.
It's certainly worth having all that stuff in one place. I use the other holdall for most of the rest of it, like torches, tupperware, collapsible water containers etc etc. Anything else is either big enough to carry separately or goes in the plastic trug thing that I use to do any clothes washing.
You've gotta have a system!

I've remembered the other thing we need to buy before we go away again - rock pegs! The ground was so dry in France (they'd had virtually no rain since March so it was very hard and cracked) that we bent quite a few tent pegs and even the deltas were hard work to bash in.
nutgone - I agree entirely about having separate stuff for camping, I have a large plastic crate with lid that holds all the kitchen gear (apart from the kettle - try as I might I just can't squeeze it in lol)
When we get back from a trip, everything comes out and goes through the dishwasher (or has a good hot soak if it's not dishwasherable) and then it gets packed away again in the garage ready to simply put in the car when we next go away. It has everything we need in it - pots, pans, frying pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses, utensils, bin bags, tea towels, washing up liquid, sponges, kitchen roll, chopping boards...the lot!
I do the same with blankets/towels/fleecy mattress covers/son's fleecy PJ suit, table cloths - they all fit in a huge holdall I got 1/2 price from Millets - when we get home they get washed, dried and put away again. Makes packing to go away so much easier.
