Hey, thanks for all the replies and the warm welcome!

Hmmm, think I may have gone a bit wrong with the tent just for the two of us!  But it was bought with the idea that if friends wanted to tag along then there'd be room.  Ah well, better too much room than not enough!

I see what you mean about chairs.  Went to Go Outdoors today and saw their range.  Sat in a few that looked pretty much like the cheapy ones we'd already bought but for 4 times the price.  OMG you certainly do get what you pay for.   Some were like comfy armchairs!   I'll definitely back of the spending for a bit until I know what I'm doing!   But my God you could spend a fortune in there!

We just cant wait to get away!  I hope everyone is as friendly as you bunch.  Thank you again!

Oh by the way, obviously totally clueless - how do you insulate under your airbed??!!

My advice is keep warm and dry. Dont panic if you get stuck putting up your tent, just ask someone nearby for help - there's always someone who'll be happy to help.

More importantly , enjoy yourself.

Happy camping and welcome to the forums.

My advice? Go a bit steady with Go Outdoors, they can be very expensive but they do sell stuff off cheaply too when they have their sales. If you spot something you like then just go home and Google it - you'll be surprised a lot of the time at how much you can save.
Chairs? Never buy without trying - they come in all shapes and sizes just like people so you need to find a comfy one for you.
Happy camping!

All very sound advice (especially the bit about not having to have a tent the size of your house!)

DON'T let other people dictate what tent is suitable.

Hope I'm not repeating something someone has already said and this is just a personal opinion, but we spent a fair bit of money on a double sleeping bag but found it wasn;t for us and have started taking a duvet with us instead, we found it let cold air in when I shuffled around in my sleep... which apparently I do quite alot!  So it's worth giving the duvet from home a try first!  Enjoy.

I wasn't dictating to anyone. Just simple advice. Especially with all the talk of pitch sizes recently.

& I wasn't the first person to mention it either, I was actually quoting someone else.

The most important thing to take is a sense of humour !!!

Make your lists, buy your gear and if (when) things don't go according to plan, have a good laugh about it. Camping is just an anecdote waiting to happen !!

 Enjoy

If you use an airbed, you should insulate underneath and above it in order to help keep you warm (if you think about it you're laying on a big slab of cold air!)

I use a picninc blanket on the floor under the bed (bought from Tesco for £5 each) and then I use a thermal fleece topper (from Dunelm Mill) followed by a fitted sheet (I use the Coleman ones designed for airbeds)
I use a good quality sleeping bag and if it's really chilly I use a fleece blanket on top of that!
I probably go too far but have to say I've never been cold!!

Any blanket/rug/foam mat on the floor and over the bed will do the job.
