We have a housecat and I wouldn't dream of taking him camping - he would find it much too stressful. He does go out into the garden on a harness and lead, but it's always him that makes the decision he's had enough and dives back indoors.
Indoors, he's quite destructive (with his 2 scratching posts, not with the furniture) so I would also worry what he would do to a tent.
Best to leave him at home with 'Aunty Chris' the neighbour who comes in to feed him twice a day.
