My friend commented when we last went camping about the lovely candle tealight holders I had. I told her they were ex-cockle pots which I'd recycled to use for camping with citronella tealight candles for bugs and gives a nice glow for our evening round the campfire with a nice glass of red.

I then thought I bet there's loads of fantastic uses of stuff we'd 'throw' away at home that ukcs bods re-use for a different or similar purpose camping.....so please do tell as not got a load of money but loads of recycling stuff at home that may be ideal for when we go camping???

I use the tin-foil cases from individual fruit pies/jam tarts etc to hold citronella tealights when camping. Buy & eat the tarts during the day - re-use the tin-foil case for tealights and re-cycle before coming home.  No waste!  I am also going to try the "wasp catcher" method of cutting a plastic water bottle in half, putting some jam/beer mix in the bottom and inverting the neck of the bottle to trap the pesky waspies (tip taken from another posting on ukcs!)

The first time camping we obviously didn't want to spend too much on something we weren't sure whether we would take to so i used empty, washed, 2l bottles of coke etc to store our water in.  And they weren't too heavy to carry from the water tap either :)
