Just had a look at the long range forecast and it looks like the start of our trip will be wet, but not too windy (sure it will change though)

Anyway in preparation, I got some items to keep my 6yo amused should it be a bit soggy and I though I would share and see if others had some good ideas;
  • iSpy Camping book
  • Girls adventure book
  • Crayons and paper
  • Reading books
  • Top trump cards - various
  • Wellies & mac
  • Pocket kite (if windy & no lightning)
  • iPad with a couple of movies and family games loaded
  • iPod for music

Of course, I'm sure we will be visiting places as well.

What do others take to amuse little'ish ones?

Depends where you are going. If appropriate, fishing net & bucket for rock pool fishing? Your 6yo is going to get wet anyway doing it so doesn't matter about a bit of rain.

Only works near the sea!

Crabbing is supposed to be really good on that coast - I've been trying to get hold of those net bags that used to come with Persil washing tablets, they don't use them anymore, they're perfect for putting the bacon in, means the crabs don't get to eat so much! (We're down in Dorset from next weekend, can't wait)

Your list looks really good. One other thing we have, which our 6 year old really enjoys (and the 9 year old!) is a pack of Monopoly playing cards - it's a whole family thing obviously, but much quicker than the actual board game, it's a big hit in our tent.

We're also big fans of the Monopoly deal card game - the kids love the game so much that we have one pack in the car and one in amongst all the camping gear so they never get forgotten. Also the one in car is handy if we stop off at a pub for dinner :)

Love the Lyme Regis area, hope you have a great time.

A simple game everyone can play together is fun - either a travel board game, card games like happy families or donkey, dominoes etc. Nothing like sitting together in the tent when its raining and all playing a game. Just make sure its nothing too competitive or too difficult.

I always looked out for some cheap little pocket toys to stash away for those moments when the kids got bored and crabby and you just need a bit of peace!

Waterproof trousers are a great idea when you are camping, especially if they want to go on the play area or play out and its a bit wet.

I keep a load of games/activities in the camper.   I also take DSs - because not only do they keep them quiet when we are travellign down, it means that they have something to do if I am trying to read etc.  Although we do play family games etc - there have been times when I get to the point of one more game of Connect 4 adn I will scream.
Books.
I always take a portable DVD adn some family films for dire emergencies - the times when it has rained every single day, adn we have done the walks/family games  and reading.  We will sit down ad watch a film as a family - which in itself is something we don't get to do very often at home

Best thing for kids in the wet is welly boots. Kids dont care about the weather as long as they are having fun. Their skin is waterproof so let them go for it.
