Is the Montana lake with an extension classed as a large tent .
Is it the footprint size you tell the site or include the pegging out as well

Each site has different rules.  The best (in my opinion!) give you a set pitch (e.g 10m square) and you can put what you like on.  Others will go by tent capacity - so a 5 man is 'normal' but a 6 man can be 'large' and an 8 'extra-large' with no regard to the actual tent measurements.  Others will ask for your dimensions - this is FOOTPRINT, not pegging out.  Looking at the size of the Montana Lake plus extension, I'd say you're pushing into the 'extra-large' category, but if the site only goes by how many you can sleep...

thought that might be the case. i take it that there is more difficulty finding sites that take extra large?

The Montana lake with extension is probably the same size as my Vermont L, and should be just under the C&CC standard pitch length (26'). You may have trouble with the width as many campsites class tents over 5m wide as extra large and the side porch makes it over that. Just try different sites as I've even seen ones that class tents over 4m wide as extra large.

I also think that the width will be the deciding factor as this is the tent width plus the porch as mussels said length may not be as much of an issue. Weve had our Vermont + Montana front extension up on lots of sites. Best to book early to get the best chance of a pitch

just spoke to the lady at c+cc and she basically said same- (arsenaides)
she suggested not putting the side porch up so lessening the width (seems a shame tho)
she also said that we would have to book a jumbo pitch and they rarely have electric hook up!
what do you think? we are new to all this . maybe we should have bought a smaller tent!!! too late now

We have down sized this year from a Killington 900 which is massive to a Vermont L.

Never had any trouble getting the Killington in anywhere, but I was careful where I booked and asked if it would fit. I wouldn't overly worry about it.

Just a heads up for anyone else who buys a monty thinking it'll fit on a standard C&CC club site pitch. About 2 years ago the club magazine wrote a really glowing review of the Monty and then the NEXT issue just happened to mention that they were sorry but the Monty is too wide for the club site pitches and they suggest that you dont use the side porch. Boo Boo or what?

Just don't bother with C&CC sites! There are plenty of others and we've tended to find that even if we'd been members we'd have defaulted to non-C&CC sites given where we've wanted to stay.

Saying this we have stayed at a couple of C&CC sites as non-members with our Vango Columbia 600 which is wider than the Monty. Having given the measurements we've not had a problem and only paid for a standard pitch, but may be we have been lucky!

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

I've found the C&CC is fairly relaxed about size compared to many other campsites but I guess they have to draw the line somewhere. I recently went camping with friends whose tent footprint was about 9m x 7m, it took a bit of looking but there were still decent sites available.
