Lucky.
I'm sure I read somewhere that most roofbox manufacturers recommend no more than 60mph.

My son enquired about insecure load conviction and he was advised this is nigh on impossible to pursue, unless you can witness the event, and presumably get number plate of the vehicle from which the articles fell off.

Insecure load convictions are quite common. It's not hard to follow a trail of debris to a car on the hard shoulder

Most roof boxes don't use a padlock, but use a lock with rotating mechanism behind to secure the lid. Unfortunately this can come loose if the box lid flexes too much. I'm sure Dezzie is fully aware of how to fit his roof box correctly, doing it for a number of years with no problems whatsoever.

Thule recommend no more than 85 mph. Happened to our friends a few years back, like yourself Dezzie they had used it time and time again but on this one occasion it just flew open. It was replaced at no cost to them by the supplier.
We bought the Thule back box which sits on a frame on the tow bar. No drag, no 60 mph limit as you have with a trailer and a fab bit of kit.
