I dont have insurance on my trailer.

I have however told my car insurance company that i regulary tow a trailer with camping equipment in

Had my caravan insured for around £150 a year when i had it.

               Insurance is great, all that peace of mind for £50, untill you come to claim that is.

What I need to find is an insurer who accepts that I have got £5k's worth of kit, even though I paid less than half that for it, and if any of it goes t*t's up, then I can have the said item replaced for new without quible.

I will report back on my findings, but I doubt I will get such cover for under £100 per anum, if I can get it at all.

Umm, difficult one.  I've got my stuff insured under my household insurance but I wonder if, say, the tent caught fire,  they would fork out for another one!  We both have expensive tents/trailers to replace, it seems all we can do is look after them as best we can and take the hit should they be written off/stolen?

PS - would love to be brave enough to make the journey to France with tent and trailer!

Easy for me to say as we have been going for 20 years but it is no harder then going 100 miles down the road to a campsite in the UK. Its exciting going to different places.

Hi No Faff.

              Towing a Trailer in France last year was a first for us, in the past we have got all the kit into the car+roofbox, or gone to pre-erected tents or statics.

For us it's a 1000 mile two day drive to the main campsite, and towing made no difference at all to the journey, I just set the cruise control to 81mph and watched the miles roll by.

We gave up on UK family camping back in 1978!, since then it has always been the South of France for a fortnight in July, and in all these years, the weather has always been perfect, having never had rain, just wall to wall sunshine and blistering temps of +40DegC.

I must say I'm really tempted.  We've done statics in France a couple of times, which have been good but the prices have doubled since we were last there (some years ago now) and with fuel being so expensive, we can't afford it.  DH is not keen on tent camping though so I don't think it's a goer.  However, here we are again, the summer holidays upon us and, as usual, in the UK - it's pi**ing down .

               We stopped doing statics, when the prices in the South of France during July, went past £500 per week.

We decided that as we spent most of our time in the outdoors, and only used the static to cook and sleep in, we would do go back to taking our own kit.

Even in July last year, we were only paying £200 per week to stay on a very nice 4 star campsite, whilst the statics were £700 per week on the same campsite, so for us it's a no brainer.

We are already booked on the campsite for July 2012, 16 nights, can't wait till we can go!.

We have realy missed not going this year, but due to family commitments, we have had to forgo a holiday this year, although the money is banked for 2012, so we are going to have a three week blow out next year lol.

If you have contents insurance then that should cover any outbuildings within the boundary of your property, which includes your garden shed, so if your camping gear was stored in the shed you are covered.
