hi just come back from a few days away with our icarus 500 and we had some heavy rain over the 3 days and there were some drops of rain coming in through the stitching where the ground sheet joins to the fabric on the side door side of the tent. i was wondering if to go along here with some seam sealent? would this help and if so which is the beat one to get?.

Seam sealent shoul do the trick. There are quite a few on the market.Outwell do there own & there is one called 'Storm seal'
Have a look through the search, you have to seal from the inside.

To send it back is up to you .I wouldnt send it back as its only a small leak, others on here would tell you s new tent should not leak and to send it back.
Try contacting wher you bought it from just in case this may be an on going problem .They may offer you some free seam seal.

Barbara,

We have the 2011 Icarus too, and have had the same problem. I have actually spoken to Vango in Glasgow, they have advised that this is NOT a fauly with the tent, you will notice ALL seams except the ones you mentioned are heat seam sealed. It is apparently not possible to heat seal the the poly ground sheet onto the fly sheet.

After the tent getting soaked and drying out I have been advised that the stitching will contract back to make a tighter seal..........I'm not convinced myself so I am going for the storm seal (the vango guy did say this is thr only way to make 100% seal).

To be honest I have owned numerous tents over the years and all tents will leak somewhere especially in the torrential rain / flooding we were caught in last week

Good Luck!! Gordon

hi thanks gordon

im a bit like you on the drying out part and the stitching contracting back as it has been fully dried out twice and still let in a little in some heavy rain so i think i will go with the storm seal also .

thanks again

I cant see how they can turn round and say this is not a faulty tent to be honest
