but all things aside i am not to fussed over insects
but the OH is a nightmare with them, some people don't mind and some just have natural phobias, and well then theirs the mass murderers of insects, its part and parcel of life, i wonder how understanding people would be if a wild badger or fox damaged tent

Do insect lovers walk very carefully across the grass avoiding any creepy crawlies on the ground or do they just march on regardlessly crushing the poor souls beneath their feet and leaving them dead and dying, writhing in agony, their children orphaned and surviving parents grieving over their crushed kids?
lol Bob. I have a big phobia anyways of anything that flies, more sympathetic to bees tho and they will avoid stinging at all costs or if smaller males into the season they dont have stings anyways.
I did try a butterfly house, my version of a living nightmare, couldnt get my powerchair to go fast enough out of the place, I did try at least.

how do you get rid of head lice???????????or an infestation of cockeroaches or wood lice termites, woodworm, ticks that suck your blood, yes they all have a right to be on the planet but not on me. and when that fly eats a bit of doggie s--t and regurgitates it on my dinner its got to go
i would suggest prevention is the best cure keeps everone happy i think???????

It's true many people don't bother with the fly screen on the tent even though that's what it's for!!!
Live and let Live!!!
Tell me about it. I was camped right by a lake in early June, midges and other insects everywhere yet the people I was with were constantly leaving the doors wide open, even after I had been round the tent putting all the nets up. I nearly had a hernia! The fact that they don't camp as much as me kept me from strangling someone.

Exactly! Car windscreens as I've mentioned earlier. Thats why this concept is so ridiculous!
Olly70, can I ask:
Do you drive a car?
Do you walk on the ground?
Have you been on an aeroplane?
Ever had head lice?
Have you ever bought supermarket vegetables?
Chances are, if you can say yes to any of the above then you've already killed thousands and thousands of bugs already without a second thought! Shame on you!!!
You appeared to have respect for Olly's view, agreeing that it was obviously important to him and he'd thought long and hard about it. Now you're saying it is 'ridiculous'. Shame on you, Gareth.
You're missing the point. This thread isn't about whether we can bear killing things as we go about our lives. It's about whether we choose to deliberately go after and kill something when we're camping, just because it's sharing our space and irritates or troubles us. It was a very specific question, and since it's all about feelings and instinctive reactions, and personal choice, everyone's view is valid, IMHO.
I think the reluctance to kill insects is quaint, but 'ridiculous' is unfair. None of the 'bughuggers' have been so derisive of the bug killers in their posts.
You miss understand me FoO, it's ridiculous to me personally but I understand that people have feelings and veiwpoints to different matters and I can clearly see that Olly70 has took a while think about this and took the time to write a very thorough post about it.
I'm mearly trying to understand his thoughts on this. It's a good thing that someone can have such compassion for something that 99% of people find to be pests. I just wonder if the OP would have such strong feelings should his house have an infestation of some kind or his children were hospitalised from some nasty stings?

Nice thread. Provokes discussion. But I'm afraid I can't think of one good use for wasps. Mass extermination has to be the way forward. I never kill spiders, always pint pot them and move them out of the tent (or house). Not keen on flys, but they have a purpose in life. Wasps tho, IMO are simply there to be killed. I like to treat killing them like a sport. Keep a score. Arm yourself with as many wasp killing gadgets and traps as possible, give them a kicking. I get on fine with the rest of nature. I don't drop litter. Recycle where possible. And know where to put toilet roll. Sepping wasps, no other critters are hurt during the making of the Lard camping experience....
I cant stop laughing at this Nige, I now have a picture of you in my mind on a wasp extermination mission
