I think it's the principle that rankles, Ratty. A B&B proprietor was successfully sued a year or so ago for turning away a gay couple because it contravened their legal rights, and I doubt a site would get away with turning away men because the site owner had some skewed view that they drink more than women, or make more noise!
It doesn't bother me, personally. There are plenty of other sites. But as someone has said already, it would have been great if they'd come back to say they had a good reason, such as the campsite isn't as safe as the caravan area or something a bit more child-friendly. Saying they've had more trouble with camper kids than van kids is a sort of weird '-ism'! 'Tentkidism'? Truly strange...
