These use to be called Wurmi Pegs and we have been using them on all sorts of ground for 4 years now. We will never go back to anything else.
Even on rock hard ground, if the peg doesn't go in by itself, you simply drill a starting hole with a masonary drill bit and then screw the peg in. We use a 14v rechargeable drill.
Putting up an awning, and on our FC, the skirts, is a doddle, but the really beauty of these pegs is getting them out again when we are packing up. No struggling to get them out, they screw out easy peasy.
