Hello all, well after April's disaster at keltie Bridge (very poor weather) we decided to venture out again. This time doing two days at Blair Castle and two days at The Red Squirrel, Glencoe. Two completely different sites, but both good in their own way.

When we done Keltie Bridge we were the only dafties there, so making a fool of ourselfs putting up the tent (Khyam Chatsworth) was no problem. However, it's kind of scary putting up your tent for the first time with loads of other campers watching - even though we can put it up in 10 minutes no probelm, its still a daunting task the first time.

We had a lovely stay at Blair Castle, weather was fantastic and campsite was good. I liked the fact my pitch was reserved. Being newbies, I'm not sure of prices, but we paid £39.50 for two of us for two nights without EHU. The site is a 5 star and you get what you'd expect - modern facilities, shop on site etc. No pub/club on site, but there is two hotels within a 5 minute walk that have bars at the back of them. I loved this site and look foward to going back to explore the surrounding area more.

The Red Squirrel at Glencoe is a 2 star site and does what it says on the tin. It was £8 per person per night. Unlike Blair Castle, this was every man/woman for themselves regarding finding a pitch!  This sounded rather good at first, but trying to get a decent pitch was a nightmare! The site wasn't really busy, but the ground was horrendous, took ages to find somewhere without rocks/stones under the surface. The facilities are basic, but thats what you'd expect and was no problem for us really. The Clachaig Inn is close by and was a great night in there!  Look foward to going back to Glencoe and exploring the area more. However, might try Invercoe site as the ground put me off here, though I do like the camp fires here and if I knew the weather was going to be good I might cope with the ground as the thought of a camp fire at night under the magnificent Glencoe mountains with a cold beer without 'The Wife' sounds sooooo good:) Kidding Darling X

Two contrasting sites, but both good in their own ways. Glad I actually love this camping lark considering all the cash I've spent on gear. Don't know what I would have done if I hated it - reckon  'The Wife' would have kicked me oot! I bet lots of people like myself have spent lots and only done it once?  What is it they say "try before you buy" Just glad I have the bug now and didn't waste my hard earned cash.

Hi Jacobite, noticed, you will be in Gareloch at end of the month?

We are off on holiday this weekend.  Staying at Rothiemurchus Aviemore last week July and then moving to Sands at Gareloch on 31st (or maybe 1st Aug)) for a week.  Gareloch looks beautiful, I am looking forward to it but slightly worried about weather as can get windy and less to do if raining.  We have never had a "proper" campfire so we are planning to do that at Gareloch.  If you are arround the same time as us look for an green vango icarus 600 with a scotland flag, mucho mountain bikes and possibly a vango enclosed campus depending on wind situation. 

Funnily enough we are also staying in Glencoe for 1 night at end of holiday, but as it is only for 1 night we are being very lazy and indulgent and have booked into a B and B for this night!

Hello Angedaws:) Not sure if that was a good price or not lol. I thought The Red Squirrel was expensive. We never had our son with us and if we did it would have cost £24 per night, but again new to the game so will pay more attention to cost from now on. I didn't mind paying the price for both sites, and would go back to both, but at the same time don't want to think I've been ripped off!

Hey Karyn, its's the sands we fancy a well, and I agree it looks beautiful. Hopefully going about the same time as yourselfs as well. If the weather is going to be ok I think we'll be there. I'll look out for ya! We have a blue Khyam and I'll hopefully be on the beach with my metal detector.
