Hi - hope this isnt a really stupid question but its been puzzling me for a while!
We use C&CC Certified Sites a lot where there often isnt a washing up sink provided. On these kind of sites what does everyone else do with the waste water out of their washing up bowl? I know that tipping it into the back of the hedge isnt really the done thing but the only alternative is often the Chemical Toilet Disposal point which doesnt seem very hygienic with a washing up bowl!
I have never seen anyone else emptying a washing up bowl on these sites so I am sort of intrigued as to what other people do!
We usually pour it down the grid at the water collection point - not really sure if that's the right place to pour it but better than just dumping it on grass or in a hedge.
The CS we use does provide a grey water drain so I just empty it down that.
A CL we use doesn't have this and they just ask you to throw the water in the hedge away from the pitches. I do try and sieve out any solid waste (which I dipsose of in a nappy sack in the bin) so that it is just water going into the hedge, rather than food particles.
It's always best to ask at the site what you should do.
Thank you - its one of those things I just assumed everyone else knew about and felt silly asking! A couple of sites we have been to didnt have a drain anywhere. I wonder what caravans do with their waste water? Maybe I should ask someone next time.

As caravanners we always put ours in the hedge or on the flower beds if there is no facility or even drain it onto the grass having filtered out the bits of food first. It is only grey water and the plants love it.
We stayed at a small site that had grey weater drainage facilities, but they asked us to water the shrubs local to our pitch, with our waste washing up etc water.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
The CS we use tells us to put the grey water in the hedge, we currently use a normal washing up liquid but I'm thinking of refilling with Ecover or similar next time to make me feel slightly better about it.
If I wash up beside the tent I just pour the water on a nearby hedge or beside a wall. I always use Ecover liquid though so can do this without feeling bad :)
I usually ask what to do with grey water when we arrive, more often than not its put it in the hedge. Many rural CS sites dont have waste water drains, even the CCC club site at Slindon which has no toilet block has no waste water facility, there you are instructed to water the apple trees. I dont see the problem so long as its poured away from actual pitches.
We have just come back from a farm site that didn't even have drains! (apart from at the farm house obviously) The toilets were compost loos, so couldn't even tip it down there. As it was just rough farm land (and we were near some shrub trees) I decided to dig a small hole and use it as a sump of sorts. I did fill it back in when we left - and as it was a totally organic farm, I also used Ecover just to be on the safe side.
