At least you can say you're not a leaky tent virgin though. Lots of experienced campers have never had that paddling pool experience that you had and now you know what they don't: that if your tent leaks it's annoying, but the world doesn't end.
I find that knowing that takes the edge off camping in the rain in future.
Camped on a hill in a very cheapo tent from Asda once. It rained while we were sleeping and when we woke up the torches, water bottles, etc. were all literally floating around at the foot of the tent. Still got the tent.
