We are only having one holiday this year and it's tomorrow-yay! 7 nights at Merthyr Farm Harlech-can't wait! Unfortunately, H has put his back out, so I will have to put the tent up pretty well on my own :( It's a boston 600 tunnel. Any tips? Thanks :)
------------- Merthyr Farm, Harlech, here we come!
My 11 yr old can all but pitch the Icarus 500 on her own, so I'm sure you'll be fine. She just struggles a bit with getting the pins into the bottom of the poles. Enjoy and think how pleased you will be with yourself when you've done it!!
Tips? Er, look all helpless and hope your neighbours lend a hand?
Seriously, if you're familiar with the tent I bet you'll be fine. Then, as Clunty says, you can bask in the warm glow of achievement when the tent's pitched and the kettle's on.
I camp on my own with the kids. The best advice I can give is to take your time and dont rush. Expect it to take longer than usual and if you feel yourself getting stressed stop for a brew and have a little break.
Would it be wise to send hubby off somewhere on an errand rather than having him "helping" you??? Much as I love my hubby I cant think of anything worse than him standing over me while I put the tent up!!!
Merthyr Farm has some fab views but on the downside as it is high up, it can be a bit blowy or foggy (low cloud)
If it's a bit windy I always back the tent into the wind and peg the back corners. Will help stop the wind getting under it.
Or as a last resort ask for help. There is no shame in asking.

We find the hardet thing with a similar tent is getting the pins in the end of the steel poles. The easiest way we've found to do this is to break the poles at the nearest join, put the pin in, then join the sections of pole back together. I'm sure hubby can help to walk the poles out once there all in place, if he cant ten I dont think he should be camping.
Lay out pegs at each corner and at the centre front and centre back. This will help as there will be a pin handy when you need one. have the doors open to help with raising the tent.
Peg the back corners out.
Put in the poles and them pop them in their pins one pole at a time starting from the back. If you can get someone to hold one end of the pole one the first pin is in, even with their shoe, it will help here.
Loosely peg out the centre back guy if there is one whilst the poles are still lying on the ground.
Then raise the poles as if they were one and walk them forward. Grab the centre guys and peg out again loosely to stop it falling over.
Just a matter of going round and straightening up after that. Close the doors before pegging out properly so that the doors will open and close properly afterwards.
hth and good luck.

There is a very simple way of erecting a Boston 600 tunnel tent on your own. All you have to do is...
Thanks for all the tips guys, it worked out well. H helped as he could without bending etc and we got it pitched with minimal trouble. In fact, once pitched, I think it was the best we'd ever done it [smug] Helped a lot I think by the fact there wasn't a breath of wind! Got it all packed away just before the heavens opened too. Slightly restricted holiday with H's back troubles but my god, those views-well worth it!
