There is something about good weather in the summer holidays that brings out the worst kind of campers, I almost look forward to rain being forecast so as to deter the noisy fair weather campers :(
We were at a site last week which was very popular with families. Now I have a child myself, so have nothing against families. However this particular site seemed to specialise in groups of mothers who came with gangs of children. Again, I'm a simgle Mum so nothing against them either.
But why do these people think it is appropriate to allow anything up to 20 or so children from their 5 tents to play cricket, football, badminton and cycle on the site itself. People were trying to sit and eat and football's were flying around their heads left and right, and cricket balls were getting hit some considerable distance on to other unwary campers.
What are the mothers doing? Having a nice glass of wine and a chat. This goes on until the kids go to bed around 10.30 and then the mothers continue to get louder and louder as the wine kicks in.
Not once were the children asked to be respectful of other people's tents etc. Not once were they asked to keep the noise down. Like I said, I'm not anti kids or single mothers, but I am anti inconsiderate campers who arive in packs and take over the camp site ruining it for everyone.
Eventually, once I realised that the noisy yummy mummys were oblivious to the disturbance they were causing, I went over on my way to my bedtime teeth cleaning and said "You do realise you are disturbing people trying to sleep on the far side of the field". they unsurprisingly did seem genuinely surprised, and were quieter. But why can't they work out themselves that people are trying to sleep. and noise travels in an open field?

We've just come back from a weekend with neighbours from hell. Saturday morning we were woken at 6.30am by this womans grating voice (we usually are early risers and when we are, we don't go around banging pots & pans and talking at a million decibals). Saturday afternoon, another tent arrived and pitched between ours and their gazebo - their car was in front - it was so close we were nearly touching. I certainly don't mind people sitting chatting until early hours, but when you have heard the boot of their car open, close, alarm set , lights flashing about a dozen times and its 2.45am and its right outside your bedroom, you do get a tad pee'd off. After I shouted for them to shut up, they came back with they have to get things for the baby. I appreciated the fact they had a baby with them and they required things for it but you would have thought that the tinned baby milk, nappies, all the things you would normally need for a baby would have been taken inside the tent especially during the night

Obviously people are going to have differing opinions about what is, and isn't acceptable - the trouble is that these kinds of post end up as a circular argument, going round and round .
In my experience it's really easy to tell if you are behaving badly.
1. If the rest of the site is quiet at night then YOU should be quiet too.
2. If your children are running/shouting/riding right beside another tent they are going to annoy someone.
3. If you walk too close or through someone's pitch they are not going to be pleased.
What is really wrong these days is that wrongdoers start off by doing something they shouldn't then try to defend their behaviour by claiming that others are miserable/party poopers/too fussy etc.
They somehow feel it is their right to holiday how they want - and deny the rights of others who want a quiet time - the sad thing is of course that the quiet ones never offend the noisy ones so the noisy ones do not get to experience a spoiled holiday !
None of this is innocent as everyone knows when others are disapproving don't they ?
The spoilers simply choose to carry on behaving badly !
