Picked up a Gelert Tornado 4 from the big B&Q near Ikea, £30 in the sale, bargin. Funny enough I got it as I'm likely to be going on the Scout trip in Sepember. No stormhavens for me
Our two troups won't let parents use the big Stormhavens either, bah. We have to bring our own tents. I've got several pup tents but none with a decent porch area so I've bought a Tornado 4 too. Would have been rude not to at that price!
It was funny on the last Parent & Child Cub Camp how some of the dads (I was the only mum in our pack) were making such a big deal about having to sleep in the motley assortment of pup tents they brought along, and the fuss some of them made about pitching them. Clearly not regular campers. The leaders don't get involved with the parental tents and it was funny to see some of the little cubs telling their dads off for sloppy pitching. My DD enjoyed this bit hugely, have to say. As one of the very few girls at her cubs she feels that any edge over the boys is a good edge, lol.
Actually while the kids got stuck in and took everything in their stride it was the tenderfoot parents that were making most of the fuss about the "primitive" living and how it was possibly risky for the kids to be exposed to it. Eh? There was a good clean toilet block with showers and hot water, the tents were solid ones, well put up and waterproof (for the cubs anyway) and there was plenty of good well cooked food, even if some of it did taste faintly of woodsmoke. I think some of the problem lay with the fact the parents had no idea that keeping their bedding etc dry was a top priority, that grubby clothes and faces didn't matter but it was essential that hands were washed before cooking and eating. The moans got a bit silly at times.
