Good time to check for leaks ,,
Read all the books you've been buying while out on a sunny day and a nice cup of tea , theres something quite therapeutic , sitting inside watching and hearing the rainfall , and afterwards the cool , clean freshness of it all ,,

Right next to the potatoes and veg ,,,

Kids grown up now, but when we did camp with the kids in their childhood days, we just went out in the rain, usually walking the hills, exploring the woods or village dancing with the morris men. A nice pub was usually involved somewhere! We had waterproofs, and the tent was big enough to hang stuff up to dry when we got back to camp.
Sitting at home now, looking out at the rain, and feeling all nostalgic for them days! They went by so quickly.
Never mind, camping again in three weeks, just me and OH! Who knows, maybe the grown-up kids will join us.

Whenever it rains like it did last night (and still is here in Devon) in July and August I usually feel relieved that I'm not in a tent and sorry for those people on holiday who are. While the odd day of rain is rarely a problem, I've had a number of camping holidays in the UK in recent years when we've had to make the best of day after day of rain or, at best, cold, grey drizzle and it just gets tedious after a while, especially when you can't get rid of the damp feel in your tent and all outside turns to mud that you can feel squelching under the groundsheet.
In 2008 we spent 10 days in Woolacombe and it rained on all but 2 of those, torrentially on about 4- I've never had to wear wellies so much in July/August. The children (then 10 &7) had made loads of friends on the campsite so just went outside anyway getting muddier and wetter (while DH & I fed coin after coin into the washing machines and driers). We also went to a swimming pool twice (along with every other holiday maker in the area), invested in wetsuits so we could still go in the sea, donned waterproofs and walked in the rain and DD & I even went riding and got drenched.
Because the children were so happy, I do consider this particular camping trip as a success (unlike the year before that in Cornwall when we admitted defeat and came home early because of the rain). However, weatherwise, it is not an experience I would want to repeat. Let's hope the weather bucks up for everyone holidaying in a tent this summer.
