I'm at home, but wishing I was camping (another 18 days to go) despite the rain that is blighting the south at the moment.

Got me to wondering, if any of you are on WIFI or 3G and perusing the site remotely.

How are you keeping the kids entertained on this wet but mild day?

we are off tomorrow and plan to put the kids in puddlesuits and wellies and get them out anyway. Also gonna take them swimming. If it's really bad a local softplay area. Mine are really small so there's only so much "out in the wet time" we can do
Did reply on my Ayr thread but it got moved?

The  family are sat warm and dry in a Launderette in Hartlepool watching the washing go round.

So here am I in Oldham with proper rain.  They have drizzle.  Just looked at the weather and after they have had  2 weeks of sunshine,  when I get there this weekend It is wall to wall rain with thunderstorm approaching.

Looks like the travel scrabble will be in use.

Good time to check for leaks ,,

Read all the books you've been buying while out on a sunny day and a nice cup of tea , theres something quite therapeutic , sitting inside watching and hearing the rainfall , and afterwards the cool , clean freshness of it all ,,

At home hoping that the rain is stopping so that I can go to the tip - the excitement is just too much.

Just got back from a long weekend away, and will be going again at the end of the month.

i'm getting stuff ready for our weekend camping trip...we're leaving on Friday after work and plan to test run our new weekender tent, so i wouldn't be too disappointed if we had a little rain if just to see how watertight it is...i'd prefer the rain to occur overnight tho so we can at least enjoy a full day of sun plus BBQ before we return home again on Sunday...after fighting with a soaking wet tent last month i'm hoping for a dry tent to pack up this time...!!

the forecast is looking good for a dry weekend so far...fingers crossed it stays that way...

Kids grown up now, but when we did camp with the kids in their childhood days, we just went out in the rain, usually walking the hills, exploring the woods or village dancing with the morris men.  A nice pub was usually involved somewhere!   We had waterproofs, and the tent was big enough to hang stuff up to dry when we got back to camp.

Sitting at home now, looking out at the rain, and feeling all nostalgic for them days!  They went by so quickly.

Never mind, camping again in three weeks, just me and OH!  Who knows, maybe the grown-up kids will join us.

I don't mind if it rains during the night. I love the sound of rain on the tent whilst we are snuggly and warm in bed

I'm not complaining, really I'm not, but since we bought our tent a year ago, we haven't spent any time in it. It hasn't rained enough! We just pop in and out of the tent to get what we need/get changed. We always go to a site where we can have a camp fire at night, so most of our time is spent outdoors.

Whenever it rains like it did last night (and still is here in Devon) in July and August I usually feel relieved that I'm not in a tent and sorry for those people on holiday who are. While the odd day of rain is rarely a problem, I've had a number of camping holidays in the UK in recent years when we've had to make the best of day after day of rain or, at best, cold, grey drizzle and it just gets tedious after a while, especially when you can't get rid of the damp feel in your tent and all outside turns to mud that you can feel squelching under the groundsheet.

In 2008 we spent 10 days in Woolacombe and it rained on all but 2 of those, torrentially on about 4- I've never had to wear wellies so much in July/August. The children (then 10 &7)  had made loads of friends on the campsite so just went outside anyway getting muddier and wetter (while DH & I fed coin after coin into the washing machines and driers). We also went to a swimming pool twice (along with every other holiday maker in the area), invested in wetsuits so we could still go in the sea, donned waterproofs and walked in the rain and DD & I even went riding and got drenched.

Because the children were so happy, I do consider this particular camping trip as a success (unlike the year before that in Cornwall when we admitted defeat and came home early because of the rain). However, weatherwise, it is not an experience I would want to repeat. Let's hope the weather bucks up for everyone holidaying in a tent this summer.

I'm at home on the computer...but going camping tomorrow. The last time I looked the weather for the next two days was set to be fine down south...not too hot and not too cold but just right.

Well I am off to Glencoe tomorrow for a week The weather here is "sticky" so I am going to get soaked putting my camp up - with sweat! Hoping to take many photos but I dont have a theme in mind this time round. Perhaps a close up of raindrops and the Scottish midge
