we still wanted the tent, i am happy to accept that nothing is perfect 100% of the time, BUT i did not want to be chasing ourselves round with repairs to a new tent!
i just wanted it replaced. i didn't feel the need to quote SOGA etc i just stated i didn't want a leaky tent!!!
i think they would have replaced it either way as you could see the seam sealent hadn't bonded, but i do think it helped it along going in when they were packed and running round after their own tail!

Im delighted its all worked out well for you. Im assuming that it was the zip and the seam that was letting in and not the actual flysheet material. The HH rating of a tent doesnt apply in the zips and seams of a tent - it covers the flysheet but not the mechanical parts or seams of the tent. The other thing to consider too is that the recommended HH for UK camping is 1000.

Dezzie, your right it seemed to be just above the zip, the seam wasnt quite sealed with the plastic stuff( does that make sense?) So was then driping onto the zip and into the tent? Our tent is 5000, it was on the back door zip and side porch zip, front door was fine. We have took many photos and hubby even magned to flim the water dripping in to show the shop!

You are quite right - HH rating of a tent is one thing, but the tape over the seams is essential as manmade fabrics does not seal up around the stitching holes, so that clear plastic tape does that essential job. Stitching points are the most common points at which water will wick through and give you a nasty leak.
One further thought occurs to me though: i have owned Khyam tents and they always came with a tube of sealant and a note saying that the tent should be checked for leaks and the sealant should then be used if any are detected. However, that was a few years ago now. Did you tent have sealant provided and a note like this? If so, you may have a battle to get an exchange or refund, because the information about possibly needing sealant came with the tent when you bought it. Check that out before going into battle; good luck!
Thanks for that advice foggers, ive got the tent drying in the local church hall at the moment so will go down and have look inside the bag, i know there is a repair kit but didnt really take much notice of what was inside it, so will check that out!

Nice when you go armed with verse and chapter and you don't need it because the shop know how to do things correctly. Glad you are happy with the result
