have just returned from a trip where we used four quishions (cushions that un-zip into quilts) for the first time instead of sleeping bags...each quishion turns into a 4 TOG quilt, so my OH and i had two each (a total of 8 TOG per person) and we were lovely and warm...

We used to, but a double sleeping bag packs smaller. Now that I've bought loads of more kit we had to save space somehow lol.

Yes, we have taken a duvet and we were warmer than when we took a sleeping bag. We have a double air bed, but a king size duvet, so could "wrap' ourselves up in it a bit. We also had a fleecy blanket on top. We were lovely and cosy. We put a sheepskin fleecy mattress cover on the airbed first, covered by a sheet and we were lovely and warm.

Someone on the forum suggested putting cardboard down underneath the airbed and we are going to give that a try this time, as cardboard is a very good insulator. Thought I might even get another couple of boxes for bedside cabinets lol!

i'm pretty sure you can buy them from there brickiemum, tho we bought ours online from JML...we used to take sleeping bags to sleep in plus cushions for our camping chairs, but now we can kill two birds with one stone and save some room in the car...

it's nice having the two quishions each as we can use two when the nights are cold and just one when the nights are warm...

We used to zip two sleeping bags together but, when I get a hot flush I need to throw the cover off double quick, and I can't unzip a sleeping bag quick or quietly enough. We now take a 13.5 tog down duvet & it's warmer than the sleeping bags were, but I can throw it off (over hubby) in a flash.

The reason I bought a down duvet for camping is that it compresses to less than two thirds of the size of a synthetic one. I transport ours in a spare tent bag which has compression straps with quick release buckles. The pillows fit in there too.

We use a duvet in the summer.

We have an airbed with a memory foam topper and it is very comfy and warm. We do have 2 extra large square sleeping bags but I find them much too warm in August. Like JK98 I get hot in the night and have to stick my feet out. If I get cold I just snug in with my furness like husband.

I bought a synthetic 13.5 double for my high twin bed but it is too bulky and heavy on my feet. Never thought of buying a down one, or using a compression bag.

Just bought a more expensive sleeping bag and I can feel the difference, so been worth it.

Having said that, last week put a foam mat under airbed, again thought it was warmer and I also like a blanket.

As I am in same position as few of the ladies, hot then cold!!, must have own sleeping bag, cannot stand double. Our car is filled up with pillows from house! must have comfy pillows. Do others use those suction bags what you suck the air out,

Anyway enjoy
