We take duvets, usually my mums spare double as it's smaller than our kingsize. We lie on unzipped sleeping bags to insulate underneath. It's lovely and cosy. I vacuum pack 2 singles and the double folds up and goes in the middle of dd2 and me in the back of the car.

We always take a double duvet after a disastrous camping trip where we tried sharing a double sleeping bag (never again!). I found it in Dunelm Mill a few years ago, it's 12 tog on my side and 9 tog on my husband's side which suits us perfectly for camping. We did camp in Wales in April and found it was a bit chilly as every time one of us turned over it left a gap between us but we solved this by having our own blankets. Apparently I was supposed to snuggle up with him if I was cold... Hmmm.

I'd never thought of using compression straps to make it smaller, I just stuff it back in the bag it came in. Will have to investigate that.

I do feel a little bit mean as we have a double duvet and 2 pillows each for our Aerobed while the children have a SIM, sleeping bag and a tiny cushion.

Down Duvet for us too. Packs much smaller and when you are underneath because of the weight of the feathers you don't get any gaps like you do with a synthetic one.

Always take our autumn weight duvet and pillows.  I don't like being enclosed in a bag.  I also put some of that white poly wrap which is like flexible polystyrene under the airbed, and blanket and sheet underneath us.  It's very cosy.

duvets all the way for us too........... I fidget a lot and need to throw out a foot to keep cool and couldn't do it in a sleeping bag.  We have Quishions (arrived today) to provide additional warmth if it should be too cold!

Quishions sound good, might have to invest in some of those, even if we just use them for extra warmth.

We use a 3 season double sleeping bag, with a double duvet on top.  I dont zip the bag up, and tend to throw the duvet on to hubby, oh unless I'm cold then I pull the duvet over and wrap myself in that too

We use 2 blow-up beds with an extra-large opened sleeping bag on top, held together with a king-sized fitted sheet. On top we use our 13.5 tog feather and down king-sized duvet which takes up an enormous amount of room but is totally worth it as I really hate being cold at night.

Also we put picnic blankets under the beds and if you get ehu, you can use the hair-dryer to warm the bed just before you get in it...... "Mmmmmmmmmmm little bit of heaven!!!"

I take a down duvet, while the children prefer sleeping bags - it makes them feel "more camping".
On top of the duvet I have a thick blanket when it's chilly.
I pack the duvet in a vacuum bag, and it packs surprisingly flat, taking near to no space in the car!

For anyone that still uses a double down duvet and keeps it in a compression sack how small does it compress to and what tog rating is it?

I ride a motorbike so am limited on space. i camp april to september, carry thermals just in case and sleep on a cot bed with no pad. I was thinking a 10.5 or a 2 in one which is a 7 and a 4 but pack size maybe an issue.
ideally i would need it to be around 30cm wide by 40cm long packed?
when i searched on the forums for duvet and compression sack i t comes back with no results. when home i will store it loose.
thank you for any help.

We like taking our double duvet but I've seen some sleeping bags with foot boxes you can open up the top and it becomes a duvet, not sure if I'd like my feet constricted in a 'box' though. They're also ultra expensive too.

The thread you've revived is over 12 years old so things might have moved on a bit for the peeps who posted back then. Maybe better to start a new thread?
