Hiya, spent my first night under canvas in our garden last night to road test our new tent. All in all was a good night with no problems however my son who is 4 and disabled woke up at 05:20 this morning (usually sleeps through till about 7) and as usual was very vocal. However cute he may be to us I doubt fellow campers will find him quite so adorable when we hit the campsite in a couple of weeks! I was wandering if anyone has any ideas for darkening his sleeping pod? Thought maybe then he'd sleep longer as we have a tent that is light grey in colour and very bright (was given to us, I would buy a darker one in future). My boy has no volume control due to his development delay, he doesn't shout out during the day just early mornings. Was wandering if buying a small 2 man blackout tent and using that inside would work but may make it more difficult for me to put him to bed etc as he can't put himself to bed. Ay ideas greatly received

Just thought, would dying the sleeping pod black work?

what about buying blackout curtains or fabric and creating an extra "inner" for his pod? You could sew it onto the existing material. Or wonderweb if you don't like sewing.

the light comes through the weave of the fabric so I don't think so.

My daughter wears an eye mask.  We got it in part of a pack from British Airways when we had an overnight flight back from the states.  I think you can get them from places like boots etc.  She is six and says that the shadows keep her awake lol.

Unfortunately the eye mask wouldn't work, he doesn't like things in his face, wouldn't blackout fabric sewn on weigh it down too much, worried about damaging the tent?

What about using a dark coloured voile instead of blackout? It's lightweight and can easily be folded to give extra 'darkness' and it's also fairly cheap to buy

This is one of my worries too having three children who are up with the sun, I wonder if there is a spray on black out treatment you can get? I will investigate and report back if I find anything as blackout fabric itself is quite heavy.

I think the best bet will be a pod inside the tent, I think it would be worth the extra hassle putting him to bed. We have a beach tent / travel cot thing we just got but it wouldn't be large enough for you...only 1.3 m long.

Just a thought, could you spray paint the inside of his bedroom pod? That should close the weave a little aswell as darkening it.

can't find any spray and the fabric is quite expensive BUT if you have room you could remove his pod and use a black out tent:

Just had a thought, we used to used for my sons bedroom a portable blackout blind called 'baabaa blackout blind'!  think its from same people who make the babysleeping bags.  We got ours on ebay and if u get a second hand one shouldnt cost too much.

Basically just a huge blackout material which attaches to windows with suction cups but sure u could adapt it and maybe velco it or similar to pod?

Good luck and hope u find something, those early mornings are a killer i know!

I've heard on this forum that you can use the light membrane you get for weed control in the garden and just drape it over his bedroom pod. I saw the membrane in a discount shop (like poundland but the one I'm thinking about was B&M Bargains) and it was about £3. So for that price you could try it and fingers crossed it's a good solution.

I have before : Purchased some "Balckout" material from blind shop ( maybe Dunhelm MIll also have it or similar) and simply punched some holes in the material at the top and then threaded the sleeping pod hooks through this first then attach to tent at the top - it then simply "drapes" down over the outside of the sleeping pod, we had several pieces and it worked well.
