i didn't realise they were allowing caravans on dezzie, the only ones there have been when we have been there are the wardens vans by the shower block. I have to agree, i like it as tents only. There are some scathing reviews on tripadvisor and my friends daughter had a bad experience there with her d of e group. They are getting quite a bad rep round this area, i have heard a few people say they won't go back there so as you say, people are voting with their feet.

bolon loyal...that sounds bad, we've only been there when its rained for short bursts so never seen it that bad. Did you leave early? How many nights did you miss? Where were you pitched? The ehu section is by the wardens van and on the other side of the fence in the big field if that makes sense?

Just went and had a look at their website. Me and dog on our own, camping in this: Highlander would pay £12 a night. No thanks.

We left Wednesday morning, we were pitched near the edge of the main circle on the inner side sort of where the drinking water standpipe was. We had booked 3 nights initially but only stayed for 2 as the weather was really bad, with the forecast looking grim as well. We had BBC radio Cumbria on in the car on the way home and their reporter said they were expecting 50mm of rain in the next 24 hours, but could possibly be as much as 100mm! Yes i think i saw the wardens vans ( if they're the ones near the shower blocks).

I have camped many times in a touring caravan so have no gripes, but it does really rile me when I see a 7 metre van plus awning set up on a nice level pitch and pay the same as me.

I use 2 tents (main one only 3.5 metres) and either a pup tent for the boys or use it as a kitchen tent, (a quechua base seconds so not huge). Together they come nowhere near the size of a van. In fact my two tents together are nowhere near the size of many set ups

I look carefully at the charging policy now, in many cases the cost is inclusive for a family of 4 ... well that's not me. But what I don't understand is when they charge per person (as here), but then charge extra for showers. Makes sense if it's a lowish start price per pitch then you pay for what you use.

I've just bought a tarp and used it recently with no issues about paying extra, wouldn't be interested if I had to.

I am sis in law karenina talks about in her post.. i feel as strongly about the way we were dealt with as karenina does..it comes to something when a guy from a tent nearby comes over and asks us if we were ok after our "telling off" as he put it. I was annoyed with how we were spoken too and that respect and manners were severly lacking..To them we were walking pound signs and if they could have charged for everything they would have.. We were respectful to their rules and charges and we were respectful to space. I could have been really awkward and have had a fire pit of my own but we pitched really close together with guy ropes crossing to save them space..they way my parents were spoken to and treated was awful and with reflection i wish i had challenged the issue but past comments and friends experiences i did not want to rock the boat as they not shy of throwing you off site!!!!. i will say though the wardens were always helpful and well mannered, its just a shame the owners could not lead by example!!!!!!!!!Fisherground please dont bite the hand that feeds you..And always remain grateful to those who visit you month after month year after year...without them you would not have a campsite!!!!!!!!
