I have been a member for 22yrs .The thing that I don't like aboiut it now is the rule about some large tents not been allowed. I do not bother with extensions or roped of wind breaks. To me it seems that a reasonable large tent does not take as much room as some with a caravan and awning. Yes, I do think the club is biased more  to caravans.

At Hayfield I don't think caravans are allowed - I certainly didn't see any when I was there.

Caravans are not allowed at Hayfield because of Planning restrictions due to the very narrow approach road through the village.

They're not allowed at Eskdale either. If you can get a caravan over the hardknott pass you're either a complete lunatic or the bravest person i've ever heard of. The other way round isnt really suitable for caravans either.

It has to be the scariest road i've ever encountered.

Isn't it just! Buttertubs Pass in the Dales is good on a bike too.

I've driven it in a Micra, a Renault 16, a Passat estate and an elderly VW camper. Only the camper van was difficult, the Micra romped up and down most happily!

I have been a member for about 5 years, and I have mixed views. I agree that the mag, and the developments on sites tend to favour tin-tenters. The advice on this forum is far superior to any tent advice or reviews they print!

I have also had some "anti-family" experience on a very highly rated award winning site of theirs (I won't name it). I took my nephew and his friend for a camping trip there (they were about 11 at the time) and the site staff were in my view hyper-vigilant about what the lads were doing at every moment; it quite spoiled the holiday for us. It appeared to be a site that favoured older people in costly caravans and camper vans..... so me and the lads just did not "fit in".

The reason I keep up our membership is because there are several lovely CLs not far from us that provide great weekend breaks at affordable prices. And the other reason is the ferry discounts; one trip to Shetland last year paid us back the membership fee twice over, and the telephone booking service from C&CC was exemplary.

As long as the membership pays for itself each year, then we will maintain it.

Funnily enough they are now doing a member survey, and one question even mentions this site.  Maybe they have taken notice!

Personally I've never felt second class on their sites and I will keep my membership for the time being.

this is exactly why we joined

we have yet to book a Club site as they seem quite expensive ( in summer holidays anyway .. )

but £12 for 2 ad ,2 ch inc EHU & toilets / shower at a certificated site is a bargain to me !
