Well thinking ahead to autumn I'm hoping to have purchased our 5m bell. I'm still undecided which brand to go for and I think maybe the position of the stove might have an impact as which to choose. Soooo which is the best place to position the stove, in the middle with the flue going straight up or on the side? Does rain get in if the flue goes out the top? I guess it will be warmer in the middle but maybe a bit close to my air bed!!!! Sorry if this should have been posted on a different forum, wasn't sure which one to put it on!!
if my hubby allowed me to cut a hole in our bell tent it would be the side. Most of the bells I've seen with a stove have been at the side, whereas the teepee's seem to have them in the middle

my 5m bell tent already has the hole cut away in the side ready for a stove.......... just need to save up for the stove now, personally i prefer the ones that come out of the side i think it gives a better look but thats only personal opinion .............. hope you get bell tene sorted soon ..... we love ours and we have only had 1 trip in it
------------- A tent is like a newborn born baby..... to some they all look the same..... but if its yours it's beautiful.

I don't have experience of either, but when I was looking at them at the NEC show, we were asking(BellTents)could the stove go in the middle (they had theirs at the side)
The chap said, yes of course, but to be aware of a safety issue if it's in the middle, if you happen to trip as you are passing the pole it's a natural to want to steady yourself and people often put their hands out, then burn their hands if the stove is lit on the flue/pipe.
With the stove to the side that is much less likely to happen. For myself with having children I would veer to the side for that reason. Thought I'd just throw that view into the mix.
Our stove had an upright flue but is positioned at the side of the tent, its a frontier stove fitted with a dektite so we get the benefit of a better draw with the upright flue and the advantage of it being positioned at the side of the tent, and we can cook on it too. We have fashioned our own flue cap out of a metal bird feeder to keep the rain out and any sparks in check,
Thanks for all your replies. I'm completely new to bell tents and we are saving hard so don't want to make a mistake!! I was originally going to by the 5m ultimate from bell tent but their stove exits from quite low down. Have looked at soulpad and their flue exits higher up on the roof panel, which I prefer. I do have kids so the stove on the side will be much better and will use an ugly fire guard from the garage to keep things safe!! Soulpad also have something called genie which (very expensively) has a flap to cover the flue hole when not using the stove. Oh I wish I could sew cos this looks great but alot of money! Dya reckon I could use soulpads stove on any bell tent? Is there a big difference in quality between the two? I want this tent to be an investment ha ha!!!
We use a stove in our Soulpad tribe 5000 straight out the top didnt want to make another hole . Some sort of fire guard is a good idea with kids . I Made our from 1inch stainless mesh it fits round the rear and sides as we sleep round it and the stove door is toward the entrance ! I'll go look for some pic'c
Side and straight up and out - frontier stove £130.
I was worried it would take up too much room or be in the way but its great - also easier to get pipes in and out with it being at side rather than centre - ebay welding blanket on floor - shame you cant get a spark arrestor/rain cap for the stove - tried making one with beer can and mesh but it only lasted one go :D
