It wasn't a car, it wasn't a tractor...it was a John Deere Gator, which is a compact or small utility tractor, not much bigger than a ride on mower. I've used these quite a lot, and it can be easy to come to a stop, apply footbrake and press the lever for the footbrake to stay on, and it then only takes a knock for the brake to come off again and the thing to go off on its own!

I was looking at someones photos of a terraced campsite the other day and thinking I wouldn't feel safe if I was on a lower terrace and there were cars on the one above. Could be horrific.

I can remember years ago that a summer didn't go past without a family tent going on fire and lives lost due to the fact that the only way to light your canvas tent was by gas lantern. Thankfully that doesn't happen as much now due to EHU and good battery lanterns.

I stayed on a site like that in Bridport, Dorset - not nice at all, but fortunately we got the pitch at the far top of the site!

I can see his easily it could happen if you left the kids in the car whole setting up. We put our keys in our pocket if they sit in the car, although I guess they could take off the hand break if they really wanted to. Food for thought.

A hilly site I stayed on near Swanage had a notice up which stated "ALL CARS MUST BE PARKED ACROSS THE SLOPE"

This was to help prevent runaways.

Not every one adhered to this.

Terraced campsite is a hillside with flat levels cut into into it. Shaped like steps. Camping is done on the flat levels.
