Well, just arrived home after our first family camping experience and thought I'd share my relief that it all went so well! We went to Birchwood Tourist park in wareham , close enough to home so we could abandon ship if it went horribly wrong but thankfully it was great
I had some big concerns before we went as my youngest is severely disabled and hubby has arthritis so we had extra to think about when planning what to take, we have a coleman modulus 7 tent and with a few adjustments (making sleep pod darker for kids and removing 2nd sleep pod to accommodate full height double aired) it worked well for us. The campsite was great for our 8yr old who instantly made friends and didn't stop running around the whole time (fri-mon), it rained for a couple of hours every day but we had glorious sunshine all afternoon/evening which was brilliant.
We did this trip on the cheap with most of our equipment being given to us from the wonderful world of freecycle but we've come home with a long list of stuff we want to buy for next year.
Am so relieved that it all went without a hitch, only thing I have to deal with now is my 8yr old who is not used to much freedom and fresh air all at once who has developed a teenagers attitude from no-where! I'm hopping it's just tiredness so will be packing him off to bed very early tonight    My disabled son had a nice time although need to pack lots more activities and toys for him next time as he can't play in the parks or go in the pool as too cold for him but we've learnt from this experience that he can cope with sleeping under canvas without being too cold, even hubby who was scepticle enjoyed himself although we both said we would pick a campsite with something for us adults to do next time as we were a bit bored at times.

Anyway, am saving up for a bigger better tent, and look forward to taking wheelchair accessible holidays wherever we can drive too

Brilliant to hear, good on yer. Always good to hear when dubious folk take the plunge and end up enjoying the experience. you'll get the bug now. I am off with one of my daughters in 2 weeks and can't wait. Camping is the best vehicle for quality family time ever invented.

Glad you and the family enjoyed it
Can I ask how you made your sleep pod darker in the end? I'm sure you had asked advice on here about how to do that?? Or am I bonkers? (Don't answer that part please )

I actually went with the suggestion of using the plastic sheeting used for weed protection (mulch sheeting?).   I tried using a black bed sheet draped over the pod first but that just let the light through but the plastic sheeting was cheap and I'd say it cut out about 40% of light so not brilliant but better
