The kids and I were on a weekend camping trip on our favourite local campsite here in Denmark again. We took the old TRIO frame tent, which has no SIG, and when I put my hand on the ground sheet at night, when it was dark and I was crawling out of the sleeping pod, I put it on a ****!
Switched on the torch, and we examined the sample. From size, texture and smell we decided it must have been a toad that had been in our tent - we have lots of them because of the wet summer, and it is just the time of the year when they start looking for shelter.
Much worse was what we found next morning: Clear proof of a rat that had been in the tent, too, and our bread had been eaten of...
I prefer the toad!!!

We have had a mole try to come up from under our groudsheet and had a hedgehog in the tent .
Feel sorry for the family at a site in Snowdonia who did not heed the signs warning people not to leave skylights open because of pesky squirrels

My daughter was in the underbed pod of our conway, and she woke us up due to hearing noises!
In the morning we investigated and you could see where something had came in under the mud flap, we think it was a hedgehog as there were snail shells by the pod!

Way back in time we discovered our coolbox had been opened and raided. Apparently the New Forest donkeys were adept at opening tent zips.

Lately, while staying in Sandringham, we spotted a squirrel investigating inside an awning - the owner had left the front open - but it got in under the mud flap - cheeky blighter.

Many years ago I went camping with a 'non' camping friend who did not understand the need to zip up the bedroom pod.  That night I was sleeping like a babe when I felt what I thought was a wet leaf on my arm, I brushed it off and it seemed to have more life than the usual wet leaf - it turned out to be a frog!!!  It was dark and it was loose in the bedroom pod - I got my torch, put my hand in a sock and managed to capture it and return it to the wild!!! I got said 'non' camping friend back as she always slept late, so that morning I unplugged her airbed!!!!!!

We had a lovely and very welcome visitor in our tent last week - a beautiful dragonfly!  It stayed just long enough for me to grab the camera and take a pic

I had a frog in my tent twice during my recent first (solo) camping trip to France- had a real scare the first time and certainly learned to zip up the sleeping pod after that! Husband made the usual jokes about what sort of "frog" it was but sadly of the sort that lives around ponds not clone of Sacha Distel...

Wonderful dragonfly, LewLincs!

This little guy paid us a visit at Rynys in Snowdonia last year.  He arrived on the side of my plastic mug, and I didn't see him until I picked it up to drink.

He was huge, and spent about half an hour in the tent, creeping up the inside of the flysheet, looking curious and handsome!  Then he came to the front door and simply bounced out into the grass.  I felt very privileged he'd come a'callin'!

New forest ponies eat tents on their way to eating any food that is in them!

We had a similar creature to the one above, in Dorset. It was crawling along the top of the tent underneath the outer skin so all we could see from inside was the outline of it's feet. I'll dig out a photo later. It turned out to be a big grasshopper and the scariest bit was when I was filming it when it was in the ground and it hopped up under my skirt!

I'm not sure what he was, to be honest.  He seemed to have wings, and I think must have flown in, as he arrived at quite a height.  But he was very big for a flying bug!  He did have a nice little face... probably the most expressive insect I've ever met!

The Dreaded New Forest Tent-Eating Horsies!  It should be a film!

I wonder if your grasshopper was a Great Green, Sonja?  They can give a really sharp bite, so one up your skirt could have been nasty!

So far I've not had anything in my tent except the usual creepy crawlies but I check my pod before I go to bed to make sure that when the zip goes round there are no surprises in the night lol

Oh I will not show this thread to my youngest daughter, she will never want to go camping again! She had no problem with toads and rats... but runs away screaming every time she sees a grasshopper!

Hi Pingvin,

Just spotted your user name on this thread and sorry but hijacking it- to say we had a marvellous time camping in Denmark in August.  We got to the 6 areas we wanted to go to, weather wasn't too bad although Mons Klint was damper (we had little frogs and toads and ginat snails all around us), and we also enjoyed Dieanes again too although it was very quiet on site this time.  Many many highlights for us- Skagen was amazing, we went mad in Copenhagen with a visitors card and saw new Viking and Iron Age sites too.  I should get around to uploading some pics but need to find the instructions first!
