Just come back from a rally weekend, and some little darling managed to stick a tent pole through my brand new gelert ds4 pop-up (even more annoying as its been discontinued and its a fab tent!). Luckily I had some gaffer tape in the car so we used that as a quick repair. Now we're home we need to see about repairing it properly. What do you recommend? Can I get away with just tenancious tape, or would it be better to use the proper patching kit that came with it? Its an L shaped slash, about a inch and a half long and up. Would we need to water-proof it if we used tenancious tape? Thanks!

Hi, I repaired the roof to my Monty 6 about 3 years ago with tenacious tape and it's still going strong. Patch both inside and outside and round off the corners to help prevent them lifting. Almost invisible repair too.
Jules x
Edit-I didn't have to do anymore to it like waterproofing the tenacious tape was enough.

Jim I bet that's virtually invisible unless you point it out to people.

Yep, thats exactly the same as mine, except the slash goes along and up, instead of down. Its near the bottom too (about 4-5 inches up). As the tent is nylon, I dont think it would hold out as well as yours Jim (plus Im terrible at sewing!)

We got a rip in our tent on our last trip "L" shaped, about an inch long. The campsite maintance team thought it a good idea to strim the grass around the tents and a stone came flying through our tent.
I had heard of tenacious tape, but sadly didn't buy any. Very luckily I asked some nearby campers and one couple had some which they very kindly let us use (if you happen to be on this website, thanks so so much!)
We stuck some on both sides and it did the job really well. We had lots of rain and storms after the rip and it was fine in the rubbish weather.

Spinnaker tape is worth looking for. A damn sight cheaper than tenacious tape and guaranteed to withstand the stress of sails on racing yachts
