took my 2 little ones in may, 3 yr old and 6 months, loads of toys, games and a portable dvd player, Agree bed times go out the window, but by 9 oclock 3 yaer old was ready to go down
We take our 11 and a half month old camping and have done since the beginning of this season. We find it a bit difficult for him at the moment as he is not walking and tends to want to get into everything in the tent so ended up spending lots of time in the high chair and travel cot. We have since invested in folding crates to store things out of the way and a canopy to keep the camping kitchen. This enables him to more safely crawl around as he does at home. We are infact taking him for his first birthday camping in a couple of weeks time :)
Would actually like to get some decent camping weather soon to enable him to crawl on the grass!!!

Oh I hadn't even thought what we'll do while we're pitching!
Nintendo DS is perfect for this kind of thing. My girls have one each and they are very useful for keeping them occupied when you need them out o your way. When my youngest was tiny she needed physic so I used the nintendo to stop her big sister interfering. You can get cheapish second hand ones easily enough. I was about to say that it's only used for those kind of situations but my little one is playing on hers whilst I'm on here, mum of the year, me!

We've took our 3.5 yr old since he was 16 months. We definitely find camping better than being in a hotel.
He has a bag of toys, mainly cars and diggers, some reading books and colouring stuff. He also plays with the mallet . We have a dvd player too with the intention of him watching during set up and pack up. This time we just let him wander in the area of site near us, setting limits, and I'd shout for a 'whit woo' every now and again to check he was nearby when we were in the tent and couldn't see him. He loved this!
Just make sure to take enough spares and layers for the inevitable mud and rain!
Make sure the older one has wet weather gear and dont be afraid of joining in puddle jumping etc. Also make them feel important when you are setting up and packing away by giving them things to do if you cant get the dvd idea to work.
But most of all enjoy it.
I've got a wee boy of 15 months and I am currently plotting a couple of trips. I'm fed up persuading my OH to come so one will be a solo mission - me and the wee man, basic stylee at a festival - and for the other we're going to take more stuff and Granny!
I've got an all-in-one waterproof which I think will be key. Struggling to get him wellies as he's so small. Going to take a travel cot in the car for the festival and see if we need it. Definitely taking one for the trip with granny as we'll be able to park near the pitch.
I'm a bit worried about the routine. Mine is really settled on a good routine so not sure if I'll have the guts to do what Val says above!
I was a baby camper so was my wife . Our daughters both started camping as babys . Eldest learnt to walk while camping . Our eldest all so wants a camping birthday this year ( 12 ) . And the youngest would camp every weekend but only in the mountains or near the sea . It's her who got us to camp in the snow she was five and loved it ( photo on profile )
